System Restore wont work Aspire One Netbook

When booting up, I get a black screen with errors. So I re-boot and do the ALT-F10 and go to system restore. It tells me to wait and I have to wait about 10 minutes for it to get to the next screen. Option 1 (full restore) is the only option it will let me select. So I select that. It then has about 3 prompts telling me I will lose all data. I say ok. Again, it tells me to wait. After about 10 minutes, it goes to the restore screen. But just after it starts, I get "Restore Failed - Error code = 1117 the request could not be perfomed because of a I/O problem"

Any ideas what this is?

If you have a bootable dos CD, you can do the following:

Check the disk for possible errors

Perform the steps below fo each volume that you are trying to either create an image of or include in a file & folder backup:
•Run an elevated MS-DOS command prompt.
Click 'Start' > 'All Programs' > 'Accessories' > 'Command Prompt'  (For Vista/7 right click and select 'Run as Administrator')

    •At the command prompt type:
    >chkdsk <volume drive letter> /r /f

If you receive the message 'Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the net time your system restarts?' press 'Y' then enter.
Your entire file system will be checked for errors and this may take some time to complete.

If you do not, I'd take it to a local tech to do this for you. Your hard drive may need repaired or replaced.

Thanks Joshua, that was my thought too.

Tabbie, this is a netbook and has no cd/dvd drive. Guess it is time to get a new hard drive for it
