My netbook turns on and all the lights and fans work and all that. but the screen stays grey and wont get past the windows insignia. I cant do anything. pressing the screen brightness does nothing and Acer support wants $150 for me to send my laptop to them. I was wondering if any of you had suggestions on what i can do to try and fix this

Funny thing, mine just went to this state in the past couple days.  It will drive a second external monitor, so hook one up and you should be able to boot up.  I've reinstalled the latest AMD video driver and update the system to use the driver.  Also downloaded all MS updates and installed. And ran MS System File Check to verify no corruption of WIndows 7 SP1. Mine decided it wanted to us Windows Start Up Repair--twice and forced a restore each time, which left me seeing a Start Up Repair FAIL Message the second time--ON BOTH SCREENS so it's not hardware.  I'm probably going to user ACER system restore unless I can find something on this forum because I'm convinced it has something to do with either the ACER Updater incompatibility with Windows 7 SP1, or something that Windows pushed.  I'm NOT BUYING A REPLACEMENT SCREEN FOR SURE.

Funny thing is i just shut it one day and came back a couple hours later to turn it on from hibernation and it was doing this! I cannot figure out what happened. There are no obvious screen marks or dings so I know the screen isnt broken but for some odd reason it just wont work right...

I can confirm exactly the same issue.

Shut it down (Hibernation) one evening and startet the next day - nothing on screen. But netbook (Aspire One 756) works with external Display. The netbook was only 2 weeks old so I changed it without trying anything.

    Good luck!
