Repairing an LCD Screen

Greetings, everyone!

I unfortunately damaged my LCD display recently. Luckily, the main reason I decided to get an Acer laptop was because of the consistently positive comments I have heard and read about Acer support.

Having contacted support and gone through all of the steps- with my laptop now on its way for repairs, one thing confused me: Originally I received a voicemail and an email stating that, since only th LCD screen was damaged, the cost of repair would be reduced from the usual fee to just $99. When I called to confirm this, as instructed, the person I spoke with sounded as though that was preposterous, and stated that the cost would be more along the lines of $270 after taxes.

I do not necessarily mind the higher repair cost as it is still cheaper than a new laptop, but I am surprised that Acer would quote one price to a customer, and then suddenly raise it. It seems like a misleading, foot-in-the-door kind of tactic and unlike the quality customer care that I have come to expect from Acer.

Has anyone else had the misfortune of needing to repair an LCD screen? I'm curious if any other customers received different prices.

Just to be clear: All of this was before they received my device.
