Acer Aspire Sudden Shutdown no AC plugged in

Hi there,

My Aspire suddenly shuts down when running on battery alone, it says the battery is over 80% charge and gives no warning, it just switches off. It works fine when connected to the power supply - it is coming up 2 years old, is it just the battery that is faulty?

Thanks

It could possibly be the battery, or it could be related to the power board or connections in the system.  There is no way for anyone to tell from the description.

We would suggest contacting technical support in your region for further assistance with this issue.

I've seen this before. Sometimes when a unit is old (and if the charging pattern hasn't been optimal) a unit can lose track of it's battery levels. It may think it's at 80% but really be at 10%. And it might charge to what it thinks is 100% but actually be at 30%. I've corrected this by shutting the unit off, restarting it and while it's booting tapping on F8 repeatedly until you see white text pop up that says Safe Mode, Safe mode with networking, etc... Select safe mode with the arrow keys on your keyboard and hit enter. Windows will take a while to load and it will look different when it actually does load.

When windows does finally load, hit the windows key and the letter R on your keyboard. In this box type devmgmt.msc and then hit enter. It will load the device manager. Look under the batteries section for something along the lines of Windows ACPI compliant device. Right click it and uninstall it. Now when it's done uninstalling just unplug the unit and leave it on any random screen. Don't touch it until it shuts down on it's own. Once it shuts down plug the device back in, turn it on and let windows load normally. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically. Now just leave it be until the unit reads as completely charged. This should reconfigure the battery and eliminate any possible software issues. If you're still having issues then you 100% have a hardware issue.

I'm not guaranteeing this will work, but it's worked for me in the past. Hope it works for you too, good luck and take care!
