Can an acer aspire V-5 run xp?

Hey everyone, first post here.

My mum recently got an acer aspire v-5, but it's got windows 8. This is a bad thing partly because she's only ever used xp, and partly because 8's pretty terrible.

I have a disc for xp, but if I install it, will all the drivers still work?

A few years ago, my brother got a laptop with vista, so he installed xp and then some of the drivers didn't work, particularly the wifi one.

Also, with the acer wifi connectivity issue, is that specific to windows 8, or would that still occur even with xp?

Thanks

Nice JackE. There's also another fix if you would be interested in trying it. You can download virtual box "free" and create a virtual system to install xp on. It would be a real copy of xp running within Windows 8, if you set it up right you won't ever have to see Win8. This allows her to use xp with no concerns of drivers, compatibility etc... Here's the website: https://www.virtualbox.org/‎

You would have better luck with Windows 7.

WIndows XP is loosing support very soon anyway.

Scott's correct as usual on trying the virtual machine option. A bit more involved on setting up than running a shell but certainly worth the effort if you're so inclined. Most of the hardware is supported on these newer machines. I'm running virtual copies of Win98, xp & linux as guests on VMWare's free player under Win7 64-bit just so I can use some of the older software that won't run correctly under Win7.
