Empowering Technology backup not responding

Hi,

I have an old but reliable Acer M1640 desktop running Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit.

I have encountered a problem with Empowering technology backup. When I hover over the backup icon it says "no backup exists" but I know that there are several backups. When I look in the D: drive I see EGIS Drive, pFiles and erData. erData contains erUBK folder which contains images with lots of files.

When I click on the backup icon the backup list showns no backup files and when I try to select full backup that icon is greyed out and not selectable. So I cannot do either a full or a fast backup.

Something in the backup software seem to have got screwed up somewhere but I cannot figure it out. I do not want to delete any of the images which seem to consist (from the dates) of one full backup and an attempt (I presume not successful) at a fast back up. Of the four facilities PSD, Settings Management, Express Optimisation and Backup it is really only the latter that I use.

I have contacted Acer but do not expect a response soon as I am out of warrenty.

Does anyone have any ideas about restoring the backup facility?

Thanks in advance for any help that you can offer.

John

    Hi,

just to let anyone who cares out there in Acerland or to help a poor struggler like me I will update the results of my labours.

I used Regedit (be careful with this) as follows HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then Software, then ACER then eData Security.

When I got there I changed the values as follows NAME                Type         Value                 My action

ab(DEfault)         RegSZ      (value not set)      none

ab bEnable Flag  RegSZ          1                     Rt click change value to 0

ab bFirst Setup  RegSZ          1                     Rt click change value to 0

After this when I tried to open the ET Backup the soft keys were available, it worked and I could do a full backup and subsequent Fast/Incremental back ups.

If Acer had only steered me in this direction then I would be a much happier customer.

    Hi,

I am still having problems with this facility. Looking at Process Explorer and Task Manager showed that the program was still running and hogging all my cpu time but doing nothing. I stopped it running but have still to have any suggestiond from the community or Acer support.

Surely somebody out there in Acerland has some ideas how to sort this.

    Thanks for any suggestions.
