I did the cleaning recently; it cost about $100 in tools/supplies (i.e. ESD wrist strap, prying tools, screw driver, heat proof tape, thermal pads, ... etc) and took about 3 hours. The dust was really caked into the fan blades and cooling elements. I took the cooling assembly to the shower with dish washing liquid and a…

thanks for these. I used these sizes for my fan-clean-out and it's been working great since! A lot cooler

NOTE: it turned out that resetting Windows fixed the "NO BOOTABLE DEVICE" error! Also, my touchpad works again. AMAZING!! Thank you aphanic for such a detailed write-up. Thankfully I didn't need to reinstall from DVD
-
NOTE: Acer neither supplied a Windows 8.1 license sticker on the underside of the laptop, nor on the cardboard box

I've just managed to get it fixed: 1. uninstall Predator Sense 2. reboot 3. do the "lodctr /R" procedure by OP. This time it worked first time. (Previously I had to run that command twice to get it to work, but PredatorSense still didn't run) 4. download PredatorSense for your laptop from Acer product…

NOTE: this didn't fix it for me. PredatorSense still gets stuck with a black screen when launching.
-
yes - keep on trying. The first time fails. This is what mine looked like: C:\Windows\SysWOW64>lodctr /R Error: Unable to rebuild performance counter setting from system backup store, error code is 2C:\Windows\SysWOW64>lodctr /R Info: Successfully rebuilt performance counter setting from system backup…

it failed to uninstall XTU in Safe Mode because Safe Mode wasn't running the Installer Service. by creating this ".reg" file: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\MSIServer]@="Service" I could turn on the Installer Service and finally uninstall XTU in…

check out my predator sense - whilst playing Black Ops 4. I'm currently trying to find out how to undervolt without installing XTU since it makes the laptop turn off after booting to windows 10
-
With Intel Xtreme Tuning installed, my laptop boots to windows -> I enter my password -> 10 secs later it turns itself off ! This sucked big time because Windows 10 doesn't readily let you uninstall in Safe Mode. I managed to figure it out. Completely ridiculous !!

You are not alone - check out my Heliod 500 values.... 97C !!!! with laptop cooler on max, and laptop fans on max !! I bought the laptop in September 2018 and this wasn't a problem with the colder weather. but now it's summer and it's f-ing ridiculous.

I've tried this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bN6i_H-sj1k After installing Intel Xtreme Tuning, and rebooted, Windows shows up for a few secs and then turns off. How to fix ?
-
I have heard of undervolting but didn't think I'd need to in order to use the laptop properly
-
It is a PH517-51
-
I disagree! When I play FPS (all settings to maximum) I see 97C !! (and that's with a laptop cooler! Without the cooler the laptop would insta-shutdown) this is from yesterday

I've collected the cpu temp whilst playing. You can see in the chart that the temp went to 97C and 98C, I presume when it shut down before it reached 100C. The chart also shows that I solved it: 1) I elevated the front of the laptop a little bit (by the height of a pencil) to improve airflow underneath 2) in predatorSense,…

I've installed both monitoring apps: hwinfo and MSI Afterburner - hwinfo free version doesn't log to file - which is what I need because once the PC turns off, there's no time to look at the app. LOL. So I uninstalled that. - MSI Afterburner is free too but it logs to file. However, app states that there's a performance…

I bought this beast in September 2018 (and the name of this computer is "BeastMaster" lol) - but lately every day it shuts down with COD:BO4 Like imagine my team is winning, then the next second my laptop is off as if the battery was taken out! I've looked at the event viewer and all it shows is: The previous system…

I've got the: Acer Predator Helios 500 PH517-51-98Y7 17.3" IPS 144 Hz GTX 1070 8 GB VRAM i9-8950HK 16 GB Memory 512 GB SSD + 2 TB HDD Windows 10 Home Gaming Laptop I would love to state the CPU/GPU temps whilst playing - however - when I am playing I am barely conscious of my body. So inevitably I forget to check temps…

according to CPU-Z, I have the following memory installed: https://www.cnet.com/products/hynix-ddr4-8-gb-so-dimm-260-pin/specs/ to upgrade with another 16GB (for 32GB total), two days ago I bought: https://www.amazon.com/Timetec-PC4-19200-Unbuffered-Notebook-Computer/dp/B07B4NYZLJ?th=1
