I recently bought one. It came with absolutely nothing. It's a cost saving measure as far as I know, which the regular Helios 16 does not have. My previous gaming laptop was the flagship Helios 700, and that one only came with "magforce" keys and a cloth wrap for the machine. Not sure what you expected to get, but Acer may…

Boot, so can't be Windows related (and yes, the Windows fast boot is off). I rarely ever use anything else. Still has only happened once, and I've made it a point to turn it off more frequently than I would otherwise.

I have an RTX 4090 desktop, so I'm set. But that case weighs about 50 kg (100ish lbs), so it's not very portable. I like to have a gaming laptop in my living room. So anyway, today my brand new laptop booted with a black screen, and never turned on properly. I did switch out the RAM, but it ran fine all day yesterday…

Ideally I'd like it to work as advertised, but it does not for all games, forcing a switch. But if I switch without reboot, it often locks me to 60hz. Thus, I decided it's best to just lock it to Nvidia. I don't care about the extra power consumption unless I'm on battery, which is rare and quite useless on this particular…

Well, next time I tried it did the thing again, switched to 60hz and refused 240. So my Optimus experiment is officially over - switched it permanently to Nvidia only now. The rare few times it'll be on battery, I will just switch and reboot. Have a Lenovo T490 for mobile usage anyway. Oh yeah, mine also had issues with…

This should be the same operation as I did before, but for whatever reason it gave a different result (switched to Nvidia GPU + 240hz). At any rate, hopefully this will work every time. Much appreciated.

Tried exactly this now, didn't work, same issue. I give up. Thanks for the suggestion though. Will never buy another Acer product.

"Sorry, this computer is not supported" when trying to run the PS you linked. So that was a waste of time. Thanks anyway, at least I made an image of my boot drive before formatting again..
-
I already tried downloading PS for the other Helios 700 though (which was released about a year later - the software, not the laptop) - which flat out wouldn't start up because it was "incompatible", leading me to believe the software is hardlocked to 1 specific model / type number. I also tried to find NitroSense that…

Just remove the bottom cover and you'll find it. Don't remember if there are 2 covers on it or not; been a while since I did anything to it. But it's an extremely easy laptop to work with. So to clarify, no keyboard disassembly required.

Hehe, I can understand this. This vexes me as well, but I have learned to ignore it, for the most part. Are you happier with the Area 51? I considered that one briefly before I settled on the Helios 700. I mostly use the Helios in bed, for watching movies and shows nowadays though. It has its flaws, but the speakers on it…

The Helios 700 has a G-Sync monitor. Therefore, the integrated GPU chip is disabled on the CPU by default. Realistically there is nothing you can do to change this. Personally, the last two laptops I bought, I specifically bought ones without integrated GPU chips (to avoid the pesky Optimus issues when running certain…

I will most likely never again purchase a laptop from Acer. I was very happy with my MSI laptop I had previously, so I'll probably go for that again next time (assuming it has a manually adjustable fan curve - although I never messed with it on the MSI laptop - was perfect out of the box). I'd actually be content if I…

Dunno if you're talking to me or not, but since I have one with a 9750h, I can answer. It doesn't seem to throttle down, no, but it is unusable in auto fan mode anyway, since it's way too loud. Auto mode is unusable no matter what you use it for, since it keeps shutting down the fans and revving them up like a chainsaw…
-
Yes, with some caveats. You have to be willing to change fan speeds when switching between gaming and light usage. There is absolutely no way to edit the fan curve that I know of. You can use one of the macro keys to switch from manual fan speed -> auto fan speed. That's what I do now. Though I barely use the thing…

Crucial DDR4 2666MHz 8GB SODIMM 8GB 2666MHz DDR4 CL19 Unbuffered SODIMM 2 of these along with the existing 2 that came with the laptop. I've ran tens of benchmarks and memory stability tests, and no issues yet.

Late reply, but I can confirm that my Helios 700 had the SATA cable included. Can't remember if it was pre-installed or came in a bag though. Might want to look through the box again. Don't know the part number, but I'm sure Acer support can help you there.

There is no profile for the Helios 700, or any other Helios for that matter. But I'll experiment some with it this weekend. I'd love to be able to not run the thing at close to 2K RPM all the time.
-
Can anyone confirm that NBFC works on the Helios 700? Looks like it supports custom fan curves, which is fantastic - if it works. I'll have to try it myself this weekend.

When you have a G-Sync monitor, the internal graphics is disabled at hardware level, I believe. And I don't know of any way to enable it even if you want to. Certainly shouldn't happen randomly. Have used nothing but G-Sync monitors as primary screen for many years now, and never had this issue. I would recommend trying…
