wifi speed is extremely slow, varies from 0kbps to 100kbps.  Other computers using same router have normal speed.  Please advise.  Thanks.

There can be several reasons for slow Wi-Fi speed. Firstly, it is recommended to connect your laptop to your router using a LAN cable and see if that gives you proper internet speed. If it does, then you can try the following troubleshooting options.

Check the distance between your laptop and the router while you attempt to connect via Wi-Fi. Keep the distance as short as possible to get good signal strength. Additionally, objects like phone or other electronic devices and wall may cause interference in the signals transmitted from the router and eventually affect the Wi-Fi speed. Please make sure that you do not have such obstacles between your laptop and your router.

Connecting too many devices via Wi-Fi simultaneously can also affect the internet speed. For time being, try connecting only your laptop to the Wi-Fi connection and see if that improves the internet speed. Also, secure your Wi-Fi connection to avoid unknown devices from connecting to the network. You can do this by referring to the user manual of your router.

If the issue still persists, you can try updating the Wi-Fi drivers of your laptop. To do this, follow the steps below:
    1. Go to http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers
    2. Type Aspire M5-583p in the box below "Search by Product Model" and click "Search".
    3. Click on your model number from the list that comes up.
    4. Once the details about your model are displayed, select your current operating system appropriately from the drop-down menu besides "Operating System".
    5. Now, click on "Driver" tab and locate suitable Wireless LAN driver. Click "Download" and follow on-screen instructions to install the latest drivers in your computer.

    Hope this will help you.

Thanks for the help, I have resolved this issue.  There were 2 problems and they were not related to the laptop.  There appears to be a wireless signal void in a portion of the house where this laptop was being used.  I was confused for 2 reasons, the wifi signal indicator showed full strength and a nearby Playstation was getting signal, but that was just luck as other spots nearby lack signal.  Also, a college the computer did not connect to the local intranet, but this was a settings issue.  I placed a wifi repeater in the house and also college tech support solved their issue.  Now things are working well.
