does anyone know about installing Win 8 Pro or Win 10 on a Z5771?

I have tried to put Win 8 Pro on my Z5771 after the failure of win 10. I had win 8 on it last year after installing a patch file from acer. The Win 8 version was not working well so I reverted to Win 7 Premium. But after attempting Win 10 and on the advice of an Acer technical support officer. I reset my acer to factory conditions, installed all the updates (3 years worth) and win 10 still aborted. Now I cant install win 8 either.

It's not entirely clear which operating system originally came pre-installed on your computer.

After you post that information, you should get some better/detailed answers than mine. Smiley Wink  Because, I don't know if you've altered your BIOS settings and I don't know what product key is embedded in your BIOS, and I don't know what patch Acer provided for you and I don't know how computer savvy you are and I don't know if you have your files backed up and your recovery partition backed up.

However, you will eventually need these links:

Edit: There's two ways to use the windows 8.1 installation USB from link above.  You can either install windows 8.1 pro or you can install windows 8.1 and allow windows update to update you to the pro version.  Not sure which method will work for you. If one method doesn't work, you'll have to start over and create a new USB and try the other.

Edit2:  If you haven't already done so, you should also create recovery discs/USB/drives before you proceed with diskpart clean and/or any attempt at installation.

Sorry, My original sogtware was win 7 premium. Yes I did recovery discs for Win 7. It was when I was upgrading from 7 to 8 that I originally had the problem. Acer had a file to be added to my computer to enable me to got to 8. I had 8 on for a couple of months and did notlike it and used my recovery discs to go back to 7. After my numerous attempts to upgrade to 10, I thought I would upgrade to 8 then 8.1 and see if I could have a better chance to upgrade to 10 from there.

What error messages did you get when you tried to update to windows 10?

Did you go through windows update or did you use microsofts tool from their website and choose "upgrade this PC"?

     - Download the MediaCreationTool from microsoft

       https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10

     - Run the Mediacreation tool

     - Choose create an installation Media (that way you will be able to reinstall without complete download)

     - Choose Language

     - Important : Choose your current Architecture and the windows Edition equivalent to your current Windows edition. (or you will have licence/activation problems)

     - Choose USB Media

     (Detailed instructio : http://windows.microsoft.com/fr-fr/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install)

    Installation:

     - On the USB Drive click on setup.exe

     - Do not choose to download and install update

NB : Before that I tried with lkeeping files and I had a black screen with a mouse cursor (before upgrading nvidia), and a blacscreen without a mouse cursor after Nvidia upgradeà
