Acer Aspire R 13 does not post (fan/indicator turns on) - BIOS corrupted?

Hello Acer forum,

I have looked all over the web and can find no trace of anyone having a similar issue.  One day I noticed that my R13  R7-371T-50V5 was not posting opened at the hinge (power light and fan came on, but that was it), but after turning it off (by holding the power buttond down) and then back on again, it finally posted.  Used it without issue until the next day, when I had the same problem, but this time nothing I did could get it to work.  I looked under the cover and the fan/light were coming on whenever the power was turned on, but that was it. Nothing else would happen, although it would make a beeping noise when the power cable was connected.  After a while it stopped making that noise too.

As it was out of warranty, I sent it to Canada Computers, who could not figure it out and had to sent it to their chip specialist... apparently the BIOS is corrupted, but since it cannot be turned on, there is no way to install a new BIOS.  They are telling me that a new motherboard is needed, but are not sure whether they can source one.  I just wanted to check whether that was, indeed, the only solution, and whether anyone else had experienced this same problem.

Thanks for your time,

Nathaniel

Acer provides a variety support options that allow you to continue to receive support, even after your warranty has expired.

Thanks, I will look into these.  The first thing I did when the computer stopped working was call Acer, but I was put throught to to a call centre where a customer service representative who did not know anything about computers told me that Acer would not help me and instructed me to take it to my 'local technician'.
