I have an acer v5-p122 slim notebook with 6GB of memory.  I like it a lot, but it runs slow sometimes, especially Internet explorer.

Is there a faster memory upgrade available, or is there a memory expansion available which would speed it up?

    Hello,

Have you checked the connection speed?

thank you for your reply.  What do you mean check the connection speed?   I'm pretty good with managing windows, but don't know what you are referring to.   I have a high-speed cable internet service.   The biggest slow down seems to be Windows internet explorer.  When I use Chrome it's faster, but still the screens are slow sometimes in changing.

Firstly check your connection with the Speedtest website.

the test seems to validate that I have a good connection.

    9MB/Sec download

It seems to be mainly the IE for win8 that is slow when retrieving pages.

When you use IE, do you have a java error or a script error?

not that I recall.  Sometimes I get a "block" message - but i think this is popups.

Should I update my java version?

thanks for your help and patience.

I'm searching via the Search charm for Java Control Panel and don't see it.

So, I'm searching via Explorer, and still don't see it.

I searched for "Java" and I see a bunch of application extensions, but no program or not Control Panel.

    Windows 8
Use search to find the Control Panel

    1. Press Windows logo key + W to open the Search charm to search settings
      OR
Drag the Mouse pointer to the bottom-right corner of the screen, then click on the Search icon.
    2. In the search box enter Java Control Panel
    3. Click on Java icon to open the Java Control Panel.

tHANKS.   I finally found it and deleted the files.

Has the same performance.   I'll explain what is slow.  When running IE 11 in metro mode, when IE is changing pages, above the URL line on the screen there are some dots which scroll across the screen (kind of like the old hour glass in windows) - which indicates IE is thinking.   That's what I'm referring to when I refer to IE being slow.

Screens refresh much faster in Chrome.

You could also try checking for any virus infections, use Malwarebyes and Superantispyware o eliminate the threat.
