I have the same problem:

I recently purchased an Acer E5-571G and see that is not running function scroll.I installed all the drivers for touchpad possible, but  in Device Manager appear: PS / 2 Compatible Mouse- Microsoft Manufactured instead of Elantech or Synaptics.Any idea what to do? I mention that notebook runs Windows 7 64 bit. Thanks!

Go to Control Panel's uninstall program function. Delete all Elan or Synaptics touchpad drivers that you find. Then try re-installing only one. Check Device Mgr. If still not included or error message, uninstall that driver from Control Panel and try re-installing the other.

Then neither the Elan nor Synaptics drivers were in fact installed. I suggest you try to re-install the Synaptics driver first. Then check Control Panel uninstall function and Device Mg to see if it appears on the lists. If not, then try re-installing the Elan driver. Report back with results. Thanks

That was quick!!! Did you actually try to reinstall the Synaptics driver just now? Did you get any error message that the installation did not complete?!!

Yes, it seems so. Did you actually unzip the original compressed files? Double click on the compressed files to see if they'll properly unzip to the executables and readme files.

OK. Please run the file "main.cpl" without the quotes. Then click the device settings tab. The synaptics device should be shown and whether or not it is enabled. Click enable. Report back with results.

And if you still don't see the synaptics device in device settings, try pressing the Fn+F7 touchpad toggle key combination.
