System process using CPU with external monitor connected.

Hi.

I am using the VN7-592G with an external monitor connected via USB-C to Display port.  The connection appears to work well and I have no trouble usinng the monitor at 1440p.  However, "system" process is using ~33% cpu ALL the time.  The behavior is like this:

Laptop with nothing connected - no problem.

Boot laptop with nothing connected, then connect the USB-C cable once in windows - Second monitor works, CPU usage is normal (1-2% on idle).

Boot laptop with USB-C cable already connected - Second monitor works, but "System" process uses one core flat out until I shut the laptop down again.

For the last few months I have been booting the laptop, then connecting the monitor.  This is a pain in the ***** because windows (10) doesn't recognise it 100% of the time, and then I end up rebooting my laptop several times before getting it working again.

Does anyone know why this happens? Is there anything I can do about it? Is there somewhere else I should ask this question?

Thanks.
