Fast startup is a new feature in Windows 8 that helps your computer start faster. Fast startup saves your systems info to a file upon shutdown, and uses that file to restart Windows so it loads faster.
Use the following steps to enable or disable fast startup.
- Press the Windows (
) key + C, or swipe in from the right edge of the screen to open your Charms, select Search.
- Type Power Options.
- Click the Settings tab and select Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable. If you get a prompt for User Account Control, click on Yes.
- On the System Settings window, go to Shutdown settings and uncheck the Turn on fast startup option.
- Click the Save changes button.
