Hi,
Yes, I think so, both motherboards look identical, so it should fit in to M5-481T.

That's good, I don't think you need a new fan, there will be a slight increase in heat but nothing to be alarmed of, this model came with i5 and i7 CPUs as well.0

Hi @littlefooch,
You could try repasting the CPU, not too much paste, just use dot method, when you tighten the screws of the heat sink, don't over tighten them, just hand tight.
You can not adjust the fan speed in BIOS, no Advanced settings available for laptops, is the motherboard new or used? as you have mentioned it could be a faulty one as well.0 -
Yes, I know lot of screws to remove, check the speaker cables, may be loose or not making proper contact, as for the battery, you have to get a new battery, it may work with AC adapter only but I would still prefer you to get a new battery.0

Yes, the seller said it would also, good enough for me, he did mention that the i5 board would create more heat and need for stronger fan (?), thanks0

if anyone has any insight on why the i5 board would create enough heat to shutdown with minutes pls tell me; btw the hardware manual for this device incorporates both the i3 and i5 and there is no spec difference in the fan unit between them (which tells me either the i5 is defective and creating lots of heat (no BIOS switches to slow it down or see/decrease voltage) or the fan unit is insufficient (recall that same unit with i3 doesn't even start to run hard)

Did think enough to paste the CPU, actually when I removed the i5 board the CPU and fan copper conduit did not seem 'hot' to me, maybe warm; used MB; I suspect MB may be defective, thanks
Now onto to figure out why no sound from internal speakers....(20 screws...sigh)0 -
BTW, the battery is dead, living off AC via the battery, again battery itself not warm0
