  • Just got my SSD in and cloned and installed it. If your doing the same thing, swapping out your HDD for an SSD and installing an optical drive caddy for the HDD, I just wanted to let you know how my adventure went. 18 screws on the back, plastic pry tool to unsnap the case from the top of the laptop perspective not the…
  • Almost forgot. This you tube video is the closest I've found to how our laptop comes apart even though it's a different model.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VPkad-3rKPM. The back removal is dead on and the ribbon cable removal also seems spot on. The only thing I think is different is the location of the drive in our laptop…
  • No problem. I came here looking for a specific Acer tech support guy and ran across your post. I ordered a caddy from this site due to a bad review from the one I was going to order from Amazon http://m.directron.com/sstts08.html?pgrab=1 it was a few dollars more but this site was the cheapest and the one on Amazon I…
  • I like the laptop by the way. It's boot up time is good with Windows 8.1 and I like the full HD screen. The only thing I'm getting used to is the touchpad seems a little harder to sense my taps than my older HP laptop but that's about it. It's fan is quiet as a mouse unlike my older HP thanks to the low power i7.
  • I feel you 100 %. I checked the same link you sent me before I ordered mine and didn't expect it to be there but oddly when I used Acers find your laptop feature that lets you narrow down your model search it didn't grey out the DVD drive as an option for my laptop only the blu Ray player. I just got mine as is from New…
  • But mine is definitely the 572-734 y because that's how I stumbled across your post looking for help with my own . Again if be happy to send you pics to confirm.
  • Your right it's not standard with the drive but it's there. I'm adding a SSD in a few days so I've already taken the back off my laptop and removed the insert plastic piece that Acer inserts into the optical drive to cover the empty drive slot. I also used an led flashlight to visually check that there is a SATA connection…
  • Forgot one last thing. You don't need those 2 Acer parts to install and use the caddy just to have the cover plate and secure it using the lockdown screw in the rear of the laptop. You can just install it and be careful not to dislodge it from the SATA port in the optical drive. Read where some dude even removed it each…
  • I have this same laptop and an going to use the Empty optical drive slot to add an HDD caddy for the 9.5 mm Tray slot. Your can find the caddy's on Amazon or eBay for around 10 dollars or so but will have to try to navigate using Acer technical support or the Acer store to get the plastic bezel cover and the optical drive…
