  • So I learned something new - I'll put it here so I can find it again. To clean up the Windows Updates mess: Windows Key + r Type cleanmgr.exe to start Disk Cleanup (other methods get to the same point - take your pick.) When Disk Cleanup gets thru it's first scanning phase, click on the Clean up System files button. It…
  • The pagefile will not run on the SD card. Disk cleanup found a couple MB to remove - not much. Hiberfil did not exist; there was no evidence that Hibernation has been enabled. But after uninstalling the "store" apps, all of the Acer apps, and doing a couple more restarts, I was able to uninstall Foxit PDF Reader,…
  • Well... I put in an SD card and re-configured the pagefile to move from the "hard drive" to the SD card. However, after rebooting, Win8.1 wouldn't use the new pagefile and built it's own small pagefile on the C drive. So, I thought that maybe the SD card needed to be formatted as NTFS. Then I configured the Pagefile on it…
  • Good idea, but didn't help. The interesting thing about the bootrec /scanos command was that 0 Windows installations were found. It's looking like we'll be doing a factory reset.
  • A little progress. From the Automatic Repair > Advanced Options > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt I ran bootrec /rebuildbcd . Then on the next reboot I gained the option for Startup Settings which got me the Safe Mode selections. Unfortunately, all of the Safe Mode options gave me a critical driver error.…
  • I haven't found the secret combination on how to get to safe mode.
  • I have not tried to wipe anything or do a fresh install. I only ran the Pro Pack installation. The tablet joined the domain and the timeclock software communicates with the server and with Quickbooks. BTW: We're using Virtual TimeClock from Redcort Software. Nor have I done the mounting yet. So far, the office manager has…
  • Good point. Thanks.
  • Installing the Win 8.1 Pro Pack worked great. After I entered the Pro Pack key it started Adding features......... which took about an hour with two restarts. Then there was 34 WindUps. An update for Acer launch manager. Restart. A few more WindUps and restarts. It looks good to go! Since this will be used as the TimeClock…
  • Great! Yes, I need to do it so that it can join the domain and have network access. I also need Bitlocker. My small business customer wants me to install the time clock software on it and mount it to a wall by the back door so that employees can clock in and out. I'll try to get that done tomorrow. We'll see. But then the…
