  • @JordanB In step 7 should I just wipe the C & D patritions of the disk (1TB)? I'm guessing the EFI partition should be left as you say "selecting the wrong disk would be bad". I just want to clarify this step, I'm comfortable with the rest of the procedure. http://www.itechs-systems.com/fix_corrupt_UEFI_partition.aspx If…
  • @IronFly Thanks for the suggestion, I will try tonight (assuming the battery can be removed) and failing that I will have one last try at wiping the system following Jordan's steps.
  • Fair enough. Thanks for your help.
  • Jordan, I'm not disputing what your suggesting, I'm just saying that Win10 worked fine. The steps simply were: PC working fine (including restart) Power down PC Swap CPU and RAM Reboot PC No longer reboots. This suggests if you change the CPU/Ram you have to completely erase your partitions if using Windows 10 and rebuild…
  • Hi Jordan, I know it sounds daft but the PC was working fine on Win10 (including restarts) until I swapped the CPU and RAM and suddenly it wouldn't be a reboot and does nothing when you exit the BIOS. I did a reapir and selected the option for reset to factory default and wipe all data. Done this twice now. I don't have an…
  • I never did a CMOS reset. I did flash the BIOS using the documented steps. I wasn't aware you have to go to the lengths of pulling the battery out. Seems a bit extreme.
  • Thanks for your response and feedback I need HyperV for Windows Phone emulators but I haven't upgraded Win10 home to Pro yet as I was waiting to see if I could find a resolution. Since the last clean build of the system there is no HyperV and no other VM's like VirtualBox from Oracle which I use for Android app development…
  • Hi, I cleared the event logs and rebooted and nothing to indicate anything is going on at all. When you exit the BIOS the disk light doesn't flash at all. Same happens when you reboot. Totally stumped on this one as teh machine works fine except you can't reboot from OS or BIOS. Wondering if putting the i3 back in just to…
  • Hi, No USB drives or devices. The only thing that's connected is a wireless logitec keyboard and mouse dongle and that seems to worked fine since I got the PC and didn't affect restarts when I initially installed Win10.
  • Hi, I updated all the drivers to acer latest and disabled fast start as suggested but I still have the exact same behaviour. Any BIOS settings I should check?
  • Hi, Since exiting the BIOS was doing it as well I assumed it wasn't an OS issue. I disabled the Fast Start in the BIOS but I'll do in the OS later and see if helps. Thanks
  • Daft question but I'd have to rebuild again with an SSD wouldn't I?
  • Hi, Did you ever get an answer on this? It would be useful to know if you got theis workign before I invest in an i5. Can't believe it wouldn't support VT-X.
  • Hi Jordan, Fingers crossed. It seems fine and runs much faster than when upgarded before and seems stable. I haven't updated teh BIOS, thought I'd wait as you suggested. Do you happen to know what i5 model of CPU the machine will handle? I need a processor with 4 cores so I can run Oracle Virtual Box and Genymotion…
  • Hi Jordan, I went down that route and wiped the data on the partitions. I had malware a week ago which avast pro happily let on despite pre-scanning the file, I'm not 100% sure it was away so decided to just bite the bullet. Sticking Win10 on again as I have a stable machine.
  • I spoke to soon. It no longer boots I'll flash the BIOS later and see if that helps.
  • Hi Jordan, Upgraded to 10 and all devices working okay somehow. Acer hardare seems okay. Sound drivers are fine. I haven't noticed anythinf apart the samsung drivers which no longer work....as usual. I will flash the bios when everthing sems stable. Thanks again for your help, Taz.
  • Thanks Jordan, I do appreciate it and will let you know how it goes. If all goes well I'll treat it to an i7 and 16GB ram.
  • Thanks Jordan, Will do.
  • Jordan, Thanks for your help, it's really appreciated. When can I get the BIOS update?
