  • The 80mm slot is 'M' keyed, the 110mm slot is 'B' keyed. The difference between the keys is what interfaces the SSD supports. 'B' key means the SSD supports SATA3 or PCIe x2. 'M' key means the SSD supports SATA3 or PCIe x4, which is the magic that makes NVMe so fast. A B+M keyed card will fit in either slot. The LiteOn is…
  • You can't just take the LiteOn SSD from the bottom slot and move it to the top slot. Its a different "key" style (m = top, b = bottom). So no, you can't move it. But if you get an SSD that is a "b+m key", it can go in either. Yes you most certainly can. I have done it. I am typing this on a G9-791 with a 512Gb Samsung 950…
  • Why would you make a RAID0 on a system with 3 different types of drives, NVME, SATA3 & M.2 SATA ? The speed differences between the different interface would make it a dogs dinner. If you meant a JBOD array, again why bother, just use a larger single drive. A decent NVME drive will beat a hybrid 3 disk JBOD array.
  • The SSD you linked to is a 3.5" SATA III style drive, so it would replace the 1TB hdd in the laptop, not the 128GB SSD. That means you will have the original 128GB M.2 SSD and the new 500GB SATA Samsung EVO SSD in the machine. Your machine can accomodate 1x 3.5" SATA SSD/HDD and 2x M.2 SSD's (1x 80mm + 1x 110mm length).…
  • The subwoofers on the predators don't only produce bass frequencies. If you put your ear to them you should be able to hear a wide range of freqs, not quite reaching upto the higher treble freqs but a much wider range than a traditional subwoofer.
  • The marketing pages that you've linked are highlighting features of the 2nd generation of Predator 15/17 products. So can I buy a second gen model now ? There is no mention on the product page that it is showing a second gen model, so if I buy one tomorrow I would expect to receive the model you are advertising. If I…
  • Go here: http://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/predator-17-series Scroll down to the part where it says on the left side "Make It Yours - PredatorSense software puts advanced gaming tweaks at your disposal for a unique gaming experience." The picture shows a G9-791 with different colours illuminating the keyboard, from…
  • After cheching the Predator website it does indeed state 'RGB' and '16 million colours to choose from' which is plain wrong. My G9-791 is only red/blue. Unless they are bringing out a new model which does have RGB lighting.
  • I did have the access panel removed, so that may explain why it didn't work. I didn't realise the panel had to be in place. It eventually stopped turning on altogether, even with the power adapter connected, so I ended up sending it to Acer for repair.
  • An update: I eventually got the LiteOn cloned onto the 950 Pro, used Macrium Reflect to adjust the partitions (moved recovery to the end of the drive and expanded the main data partition to fill the rest of the drive). I have been using it for a week now and it seems to work fine. It still doesn't show up in the Bios at…
  • Oh but only if it was that easy! The other slot is 22110 sized, so while the LiteOn connector will physically fit in the slot, there is no way to screw down the other end. I did try it, I got around the mounting problem by taping the loose end down so it couldn't spring up. It still didn't work. With both SSD's installed,…
  • I wasn't dissapointed when I discovered the LiteOn drive, I was angry. All the reviews talked about the wonderful Samsung NVMe drives, and after paying a considerable sum for this lapweight, I find a LiteOn. That's why I went out and bought the 950 Pro. My problem is: The 128 LiteOn is installed in the 2280 slot and has…
  • So we have to wait for a BIOS update from Acer before we can boot using NVMe, or even have the BIOS recognise one is installed ? How long will that take ? So why do Acer provide review units with a 950 Pro already installed ? And they even sell Predator laptops with 512GB SSD's in them. I can only assume they are the same…
  • Hi, I have a Predator 17, but this info should be the same for a 15. The 2280 slot is 'M' keyed, which allows SATA or 4 lane PCIe. The 22110 slot is 'B' keyed, which allows SATA or 2 lane PCIe. I have seen review models with a 512GB Samsung 950 Pro, which is NVME and only available in 'M' keyed 2280 size. I have just…
