  • I also in 2024 Feb have "This system is vulnerable" on a AN517-51. At this point, I doubt Acer is going to fix this. For those who wish to check, get the Intel vulnerability detection tool here…
  • Just a note that a second computer, same as the first (talked about in this thread), and that I bought at the same time as the first, has now had the same sue. On boot, it says no bootable device. Removing the SSD and putting it in a portable case, SSD cannot be loaded.
  • Just had a second go "no bootable device". I cannot recommend these computers, or clone the SSD immediately. The SSDs in them appear to be garbage.
  • I get the same and out of warranty. Very disappointed. Had another one's SSD die on me so these are unreliable computers sadly.
  • Yeah it'll show but you can't do anything because 1. you can't INSPECT 2. half way through trying to partition it fails. I see that all the Acers I have are RST. I found a page on Intel's site where Intel said there's really no reason to use their driver unless you use Optane. So if I ever have to reconfig these computers…
  • That's a little different. You wanted to boot from 2d drive and it wasn't bootable. My first SSD just died, as it turns out, so computer wasn't bootable. But thanks! No choice but get a new SSD. The old one dead in other computers as well, too, that's a double check that it died.
  • I'm not sure what you mean by Linux version. GParted is a Linux kernel on the USB, so it's always booting into a small Linux distro. I used x64 architecture edition though, to suit the hardware. Got from https://gparted.org/download.php
  • Only showed the 2tb and the recovery USB
  • Yes, you make a bootable USB with UEFI shell, and machine boots to the interactive shell. From there you can select and partition, etc. I forget if it comes with DISKPART or I added that. You can get the files to make a bootable USB that will load UEFI shell from…
  • 1. Yes, Diskpart from UEFI Shell cannot operate on the SSD. Does not show anything for INSPECT and I cannot make a GPT partition on it. 2. GParted boots and detects only the 2Tb hard disk and the rescue USB.
  • Just reporting for interest. SSD in slot 0 recognized, but cannot be CLEANED or new GPT disk made on it. Moved it to slot 1, with cleaning, same thing. Cannot make GPT partition. Hard drive in slot 2 works fine in UEFI Shell. So, I suspect card dead. Buying new.
  • I was thinking it might be wise just to wash the whole thing in the bathtub with detergent and water, so I don't have to clean it again in a few months. Joking of course. Yeah, I have some alc and will swab everything. Will do that next. Agree with you re RST. I see a lot of issues with Optane on the web, esp when changing…
  • I will try a GPartEd USB to see if I can see the Hynix SSD. It kept dropping out of DISKPART so I could never convert to GPT. For ex, would show as drive 0, then would disappear after CLEAN command. Or half way through CONVERT GPT would fail with I/O error. So I shut drive 0 down in the BIOS and played around installing…
  • Just recording this for anyone reading. My 256 Gb SSD is showing in BIOS. 1. Setting BIOS to use RST Premium with Optane and then trying to boot from Win recovery drive crashes the computer with DRIVER PNP WATCHDOG. 2. Setting BISO to ACHI boots to Win recovery, but I cannot DISKPART the 256 Gb to make it a GPT drive. It…
  • Looks like CONVERT GPT results I/O device error, and refers me to System Event Log for more. I'll figure out how to see that.
  • Yes, just have an issue that while using DISKPART the SSD disappeared, so rebooting to clear if still happens I will check connections. But yes, I need to select, clear, GPT, partition and then install. somehow the SSD got corrupted/wiped. The CTRL-S trick is a sneaky one, thanks. I see on other sites people are saying RST…
  • So, it seems the partitions on the SSD have been completely lost. No volumes there. The 14 Gb appears to be the USB recovery disk. At least one mystery solved.
  • Unfortunately all options in the recovery disk fail. This includes 1. Tried "fix startup problems" which fails 2. Tried resetting Windows without overwriting 3. Tried resetting Windows and wiping the drive I can try restoring from an image, but need an image. Will see what I can accomplish in Command Prompt from this…
  • I tried booting from a Windows recovery disc, which would fail before. This worked. I am currently recovering the PC from the recovery partition. The CTRL-S trick did it so far, thank you. Spoke too soon. "There was a problem recovering your PC".
  • 1. No hidden in ADVANCED. 2. Yes, RST option appeared in MAIN tab after CTRL+S. (Note I needed to specifically use LEFT CTRL+S - just recording this for anyone reading this later). Options are AHCI, RST with Optane, RST Premium with Optane. I tried AHCI, and still got "no bootable device"
