  • yes, tried hdd in another system worked fine and cd along with cables and power supply connected from another system same effect. As mentioned if I clear the cmos or remove battery etc. and then boot I get into bios, cos nothing in cmos, if I change date, drives will not be seen but hoped it would indicate that, the system…
  • billsey, I have done that twice just to make sure and checked batteries still same problem that is why I wanted to look at the circuit diagram, as hdd not being recognised in bios. Thanks once again
  • billsey, thanks for the reply, pity I can’t dig one of those out. I have an x3200 I know it’s oldish but suits for some little jobs I have for it, and, form is nice and small. Well suddenly it would not boot and fan was running very fast at attempted boot. I cleared the cmos and was able to boot into bios, no hard drives…
  • just to update in case the devices were clogging the bus I disconnected both, same effect, removed ram and installed one at a time exactly the same effect. Perhaps I will firstly try another battery cos who knows
  • no DVD nor HDD a show up, I have put a new battery, perhaps it’s time to purchase that motherboard, but, I just hoped it was something simplistic, it’s the issue with the writing to CMOS which I fear is a signifier but without schematic or timings could prove a finger in the air to fix
  • yes, I did exactly as suggested but the fault is just as described. Whenever I reset the cmos it will boot to bios, but no hdd seen, after updating bios with anything it then fails to boot at all. I fear the write and update of cmos has gone up the Swanny. I have tried to find a schematic and timing diagram without any…
  • Larryodie, did that exactly the same result, booted first time to bios, all voltages seen OK, no hard drives seen. Rebooted without changing anything booted to bios OK. Then updated date/time saved via F10 rebooted black screen did not boot into bios even after hitting del key, shutdown via power switch restarted, then fan…
  • yes, that number you suggested is theone, i have tried it alone and it does not work, ie. it does not boot. i have tried both modules alone and neither allow a boot, if i revert back to the 256mb it will again boot
