  • When I try to start Subnautica using Nvidia gpu, one of these three things happen: - The machine freezes a few seconds after the game's loading screen appears, and there is no other choise but force the machine to shut down. - The loading screen appears but just stays there forever saying "loading...". It just stays like…
  • Hi JackE, I added another 8 GB module and checked with CPU-Z that the two modules are running in dual channel mode. But it didn't have any effect on the main problem; the heavier games still cause freezing/crashing/bluescreening when using the Nvidia gpu; Intel gpu works OK. Juha
  • Ah, that's true of course, the game is constantly updating... OK, I might try to add more RAM.
  • OK, that makes sense... but still... the machine didn't have any such problems with the original motherboard, with same amount of RAM and same GPU.
  • The machine has 8 GB of RAM and the Nvidia GT 750M has 4 GB of VRAM. Just to remind you: Subnautica, and other bigger Steam games, load and work when using the integrated graphics. So the not-loading/freezing/bluescreening is related to the Nvidia, but clearly not a temperature issue.
  • OK, I enabled Nvidia: when idling, its temperature is about 37-40 degrees. I started Minecraft as a test, and when playing the temp ramped slowly up to 50, and then stayed at about 48-50. Also tried Subnautica, which this time didn't make the whole machine freeze, but didn't get past the loading screen. Also here, when the…
  • I got today a reply from Deltaco: their charger is not able detect anything, it simply puts out the voltage that is determined by the chosen connector. Which means that I did drive this new motherboard with 19 volts when using the Deltaco. I don't know if it's worth trying to troubleshoot this any further after this info,…
  • Fan stuck on high speed and machine freezing or bluescreening under load when using Nvidia graphics. Other than that the machine seems to work OK. But no, I have not been using the Deltaco since I found that the original charger mysteriously works after all (see my post on August 13).
  • Yes, that's what I meant.
  • I think the fan behaviour has been like this right from the beginning with the new board running on the Deltaco. But it was not until I installed the Performance Monitor that I started to realize that the fan noise doesn't correlate in any way with the temperatures or CPU usage. I sent a message to Deltaco support the day…
  •  That's what I tried to say in my earlier post: I'm pretty sure that the fan is running faster than the Performance Monitor shows. I have not measured anything, it's just that I remember this machine being very quiet earlier, you could hardly hear the fan running at all when I was not doing anything demanding. And now the…
  • Hi, thanks for the fan info. I didn't know anything about fan speeds, what's normal and what's not. I should have said that the fan sounds much louder than before. It sounds as if the machine is working hard all the time although it's not. And furthermore, it doesn't get any louder than that even when the machine really is…
  • OK, I installed the Intel graphics driver that you suggested and left the Nvidia driver as is. Then I installed the DriverBooster, which is satisfied with both drivers. It found 20 other out-of-date drivers which I let it update. I also updated bios to the version is 1.15 and Windows to the latest build 1903. None of these…
  • Hi, I should really stop trying to pretend that I understand something about computers, electricity, voltages, measuring... I took the original charger out of the bottom of my drawer to check once again its specs. Out of a sudden impulse, I plugged it to the computer and pressed the power button - and the ***** machine…
  • Yes, I'm sure I could have found an original charger, but the Deltaco one was readily available from a nearby shop, so I decided to grab that. As the original Liteon charger was specked at 19V/6.32A/120W, and the Deltaco is specked at 18–19V/6,66–6,31A/120W when using a dedicated Acer connector, it never even crossed my…
  • After the first incident I measured the output voltage of the original power supply, but could't get any sensible readings. The repair shop where I took the machine confirmed me that this was the case. So when I replaced the motherboard I needed also a new power supply. However I couldn't find an original Acer one, so I…
  • JackE, many thanks for trying to help me. Unfortunately the question of driver versions became irrelevant... the machine stopped working again. More precisely it doesn't get power. When I have the battery removed and the power cord plugged in, the machine doesn't start and no leds are lit, looks like completely dead.…
  • I see: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M
  • JackE, thanks for your quick reply and sorry for my not-so-quick response... The machine works quite OK in basic use, web browsing, office work, light gaming etc. But when my children try to play their more demanding 3d games, like Subnautica, the machine freezes immediately, already when the game is only loading. In these…
