  • Have you tried a different keyboard (USB or bluetooth/remote)? Maybe your keyboard itself is defective. Did any liquid get on the keyboard? Mel
  • OK, thanks. At this point, I'll just stick with the F12 USB combo. Thanks for your help and patience Mel
  • I doubt it. The stick itself is a Macrium Reflect boot stick. I may create a W10 boot stick also. I'm talking about a boot order where I can prioritize media (eg: USB first, disk drive 2nd, C drive 3rd). I want the computer to do such an order, even if I am not using any devices in an instant. I've seen youtube videos…
  • Jack: Thanks for your help. It's been quite a ride. The short answer: IT WORKED. I then tried holding the F2 button and pressing start. THAT ALSO WORKED. Much better than doing the hit-or-miss continuous tapping! I then re-enabled the secure boot and it still worked. How come? Could it be that holding the F12 key was the…
  • Jack: Sorry for the delay. I was waiting until I did my next full image B/U before proceeding (which was probably irrelevant). Anyway, I set a supervisor PW, went back in and disabled secure boot. I then went back in via F12. Unfortunately, nothing changed. As I said in a previous post: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jack: Thanks for…
  • Jack: Before I do that, what are the implications of having a supervisor pw. Will I need this pw for a regular normal computer login (right now, I don't need a pw or pin to get on the computer and I like it that way). Is the supervisor pw just needed to access the BIOS? I have W 10, 20H2, if that matters. Also, can I…
  • Jack: Thanks for the quick response. F12 is enabled. When I boot using F12, Boot manager is highlighted and I cannot move off of it The up-arrow/down-arrow, F5, F6 do nothing. If I hit Enter, the machine does the usual boot from C-drive. Now, above the highlighted boot manager, it says Boot Option Menu. I have no way of…
  • Thanks. I know I can also do shift/restart for a 1-time change in boot order, but if there is a problem and I can't get there... I'd rather just know how to change the boot order and see how the delay goes. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll keep that in mind Mel
  • Before I do this: What does advanced mode do? Will that give me more choices? What key on boot-up goes into BIOS? (F2? F9? F12) or ? Mel
  • The problem is that when I restart the computer, it will work anyway. So, I guess I'd have to wait a few months to see if the problem recurs.
  • All I get is HUD-compliant touchpad, whatever that means. Also: Device HID\SYNA7DB5&Col02\5&22d87139&0&0001 was migrated. So... synaptics perhaps?
  • E5-576G-5762 Can you elaborate how to get to that spot (in Ingles!) Mel
  • Jack: Thank you for taking the time and effort in responding to me posts! Mel
  • Jack: Keep in mind that I do regular images (I really like Macrium Reflect). So, if I can't do the normal boot-up, I would boot from the USB drive and hopefully be able to restore from an image. Otherwise, I would restore via installing Windows, then install Reflect, then restore from my image. That should get everything…
  • Maybe I'm making this too complicated. Windows has a feature where I can "Make a Recovery Disk." I know it will make a bootable USB disk and it will put the system files on it. Not sure if it puts the W10 ISO on it and I assume (hope) it would format it GPT. I'm going to try and find out. Any opinions? (Or is this the same…
  • OK, I did more reading and see why GPT is preferred, unless I want to go into BIOS and switch from UEFI to the older Legacy. Anything really wrong with using the MSFT Media Creation Tool Mel
  • Jack: Again, I'm a novice at this. I have a USB 32 gb flash drive on order. It will be here on Wednesday. It's a Sandisk Cruzer. From past experience, it will be FAT32 formatted and I will convert it to NTFS (much better file handling and necessary for larger files). I plan to just keep it exclusively for when I want to…
  • Jack: Your last sentence nails what I want to do. I want to create a bootable disk and/or bootable USB drive and boot from it. So, I enabled the boot option. I then pressed the F12 key upon booting up. That took me to boot manager. There were instructions about using up and down arrows to select my boot media, but no…
  • Jack: Thank you for the quick response. Right now, when I start my computer, no password is required. This is the way I want it. If I set a supervisor password, will this change? If not, is the supervisor password only required to do some stuff in the BIOS. (I am a novice in using Acer BIOS) Mel
  • I thought that I am forced to do updates first. I'll see. I have an SSD drive, so I think no defrag needed. I will definitely get rid of bloatware early on
