  • Same question. I'd like an update to the R7 series that has: * The same keyboard/touchpad flip. It seemed weird at first but it's actually a good idea. * The aluminum arm for holding the screen. And some improvements: * Reduced minimum brightness. In a dark room the minimum brightness on the R7-571 is too high, and a waste…
  • I have a partial solution. Go to Settings, hit Devices, hit Device Manager at the bottom of the first screen in the righthand pane, find the Realtek driver in "Sound, video, and game controllers," right-click it, and hit Update Driver. When it's done, let it restart like it asked, then right-click your audio icon in the…
  • Right, my machine wasn't harmed, but that's in part because I didn't try a driver for a random other laptop. So, no harm was done here, but I'm a relatively technical person who knows better. I would caution you against giving the same advice to others if you have no evidence those other drivers will resolve things,…
  • Right and if it destroys my system, my fault not yours right? That's why I won't be installing it. Guessing to determine whether another driver for another machine might work is fine in a testbed with a lot of machines to throw away if it turns out badly, a situation testers at Acer might find themselves in. But the one…
  • Hmmm it sounds like you're guessing. Installing drivers for one system on another can be quite dangerous - it can destroy your system if you aren't careful. I won't be doing that. It appears Acer needs to release a new version of the Realtek/Dolby sound driver and config arrangement.
  • Hmm so I've tried updating these drivers before, past what's on Acer's site (which is quite dated - 2013), and got similar results. Not only did the audio not improve, but things appear to have gotten worse. I no longer have the Dolby icon in my taskbar with which to modify the way audio plays (equalization, virtual…
  • I've had this happen as well, but in a normal laptop usage position. It seems as though with some applications (like Civilization 5) there's a chip behind the touchscreen, bottom-middle, just right of the arm on the screen, that heats up and maybe overheats. You can feel the heat on the screen. When this happens the…
  • This is more of a Win8 issue in general than an Aspire R7 issue - usually - although interestingly I have the inverse problem (my machine used to sleep when i closed it and never, ever wake up), so perhaps this is R7-specific. In any case the important first step is to notice that sleep behavior is in many places in…
  • Do you have Numlock on maybe? File a support ticket, that's pretty strange - probably need the keyboard replaced. Could be caused by a spill?
  • No brilliant answers for you, but I ditched the drive that came with the machine for a full SSD (not that the one that came with it is bad, it just will never be as fast as a full SSD). I have found that as Win8 has received updates, and especially post-8.1, it's also slowed down boot-wise for me. I'd say it was 4 seconds…
  • I installed the latest Elan drivers for Win8.1 from Acer's drivers site: http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/TouchPad/TouchPad_ELANTECH_11.6.27.201_W81x64_A.zip?acerid=635171505678275031&Step1=NOTEBOOK&Step2=ASPIRE&Step3=ASPIRE%20R7-571&OS=81P1&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6 That wiped all my settings, but once I went in…
  • Yeah, just pointing out there's already one megathread for it, so just starting a bunch of other threads about the same thing won't help any - if anything it'll make it harder for people to find answers. Not that anyone's going to read 60 pages in that thread either. But it at least gave me a clear place to unsubscribe…
  • Acer - can you please just release this simple driver change so I can write a positive review about this laptop? It's a great laptop. This is the one thing that still bugs me about it.

I'd be scared of this too, but it's clear Worm is referring to the way StackOverflow.com/Stackexchange.com handle editing, which is probably not something most people are aware of. You can't even…
  • Actually, Notebooks,Netbooks is now at 313 pages and accumulating. What we need is the newer users to do a search first. However, I expect that is not going to happen. Correct, this is not going to happen - and more importantly it wouldn't be very useful, since what to me is a sensible query for my question is going to…

  • This is already being discussed extensively in another thread: http://community.acer.com/t5/Notebooks-Netbooks/Poor-Wifi-on-new-Aspire-R7/m-p/112067#M22802 The answer is to contact Acer Support now that they've acknowledged there's a serious wifi issue. Generally people have either sent away their laptop for repair, or…
  • The first and last ones are best. It really doesn't make much difference, but when investigating RAM I check: Cas Latency (CL) - lower is better. In these 8 is the lowest you'll find, 9 is good, 11 is poor. Timings, like 9-9-9-24. Lower is better. Power usage, which usually requires googling the name plus the words "power…
  • If you're cool with losing your data, you can just swap the drives, then boot from the recovery drive. Use the Refresh action to overwrite the OS with a fresh copy. Solved. I'm pretty sure this keeps some of your files, removes most programs you installed, and leaves some working, but it's generally simpler.
  • Best Buy can swap in both for $100 after you buy them separately online. If you've never done it before, setup an appointment, bring it in, be nice and ask to watch them do the work. If you're nice enough they'll break policy and do the work there in front of you. If you do it yourself, the laptop is deceiving. There are…
