  • Got it. Would make sense since I haven't cleaned the internals for seven years. Thanks for the advice. Just finally, I have access to a compressed air can, just blow that through it do you think? (I haven't got a small enough screwdriver to take off the case). 
  • No mate, completely normal. In fact it hasn't died without the charger plugged-in. It makes me think the fan is broke after so many years and the laptop turns off to stop over-heating? Although in saying that, despite being hot, it's not that hot around the fan when it happens.
  • Hi Jack- it does it whether plugged in or not, and it turns completely off (not sleep mode). Do you think I might need a new battery? As I said I've not changed anything after seven years of using almost every day.
