  • Don't worry mate, i was just kidding. I don't care who gets credited as long as the community gets the necessary help and information. I am going to work on a liquid metal repasting tutorial in the near future, if you wish to add something like it to your post, i will gladly help.
  • @Skelomorph i opened this post March last year. You left comments on it last week. https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/491929/acer-predator-dolby-audio-issues#latest
  • Dolby is getting disabled when you open games that use your microphone. To fix Dolby not getting disabled again, be sure to install EqualizerAPO both for Speakers and Microphone. It should not get disabled anymore after that. Also the problem is not only with games that use microphone, this also happens with Skype,…
  • Hmm, looks like i wasn't credited for the EqualizerAPO post with volume normalization, preamp and fix for microphone lowering the system volume disabling Dolby when in use. Anyway, good job, very neat, informative and well laid out post with all the essential info! Sup ven98, how's your laptop holding up? Just repasted…
  • Besides the NVMe SSD, if you want to push it even further, you can still use the other two M.2 SATA slots and configure them in RAID 0, 850 EVO M.2 2280 1TB two of these should suffice and you should theoretically have about 1.1GB read and 1GB write speeds, almost NVMe speeds if you ask me, and use the good ol' 2.5" bay as…
  • Every GX-792 has the same board, the last letters mainly help identify model configuration variations, like FHD or 4K display, storage configs and amounts, same story with RAM. You have only one NVMe capable M.2 slot, so you cannot RAID 0 NVMe protocol, you would be better off buying a single large NVMe SSD instead of…
  • it will not go below 30%, all battery draw and performance boost stops. as soon as you stop gaming or the load drops, your battery charges up again. the system is designed this way because batteries that stay charged at high voltages deteriorate faster, a half charged battery will always have a longer overall lifespan than…
  • This is a protection measure against battery wear and powerbrick overheat on extensive use. The system actually has a relatively low power draw, about 250W, reported by notebookcheck, on normal preset. Using the OC presets increases the power draw significantly, so you can expect faster battery drain and much hotter…
  • Yes, truly shocked indeed. Repasted my GX-792 with 7820HK several times with the highest quality thermal compounds from different brands but still, my CPU stays 98°C. Unbelievable and unacceptable. GPU temps on the other side are just beautiful, never got over 70°C
  • You can even go up to -0.120mV. Good temps, hope they remain so. Kudos for the bew aquisition mate. So, other than the temps, how does yours fare till now?
  • Other than the 2 obvious things that i mentioned, CPU temps and the annoying Dolby Audio disabling itself when using mic, it is a great performance powerhouse and one of the best looking designs. Oh, and we should also not forget about the coil whine. Best of luck
  • are you kidding me man? IPS displays are just awesome, especially the ones on the Predator! The best color reproduction and quality can be achieved on a 4K IPS display with a 100% adobe RGB color spectrum coverage, that is professional grade reproduction on a gaming laptop! But if you're like me and you like to…
  • Your temps are really good, given the issues with the majority of Predator laptops running above 90C, you have nothing to worry about. Undervolting would help to further lower the temps, but at 74C on a laptop, i don't see the point in wasting time to undervolt and tune everything all the time
  • I will never ruin the surface of a delidded chip with metal based thermal compounds, all i really noticed between repastes with different thermal grease is a bit of higher performance, but temps still remain the same, maybe 2-3 degrees lower. I remember i wrote a scenario about this, and noticed that the CPU wants to run…
  • The yellow tinge is not normal, never saw something like that on an IPS display. If it is too pronounced and it bothers you, send it in for repairs, they can change the display assembly in a blink. As for the heat on the predator logo, it's normal, especially when you think it is the brightest FHD IPS display out of ANY…
  • What? They say they never heard of any thermal issues with the Predator line? Haaahaaaahaaaaaa!!! The forums are full of them thermal issues, even with my GX-792, repasted several times with Kryonaut, Arctic Silver 5 and Arctic MX-4 with no luck! Tightened the CPU bracket with no results, even with undervolt CPU gets to…
  • I would say not to worry all that much... this is called "coil whine" and i have it aswell on my GX-792, but only when AC adapter is plugged in. There are coils that produce this sound and there are ones that do not, it differs from manufacturer to manufacturer. remember the days of 900 series GTX cards with the coil…
  • That's good news, maybe a reinstall of drivers and EqualizerAPO works for the Creators update. Good to hear this
  • To everyone using my fix or trying to use it, i have some news. Tested out a few scenarios and seems that Windows 10 build 1703 breaks my audio fix (Windows 10 Creators update). If you have Game Mode (Game Bar, Game DVR) in your settings section, it means you have the 1703 build Creators update and EqualizerAPO will not…
  • Maybe the audio codec is a bit different on your device. Try disabling all effects from control panel under Sounds, for your Speakers and Microphone, and if it still doesn't work, try to untick the "Allow exclusive control" for both. Test it out and reply so we can now how it works for you
