The active window vanishes, leaving a frame of a smaller size, but returns with just a small jiggle of the mouse, at a random point on the screen(not the top or bottom bars) and I can resume working normally. Thanks. The problems have developed in the last 3 months or so. I have not altered the original Windows 7 Home Premium though it seems to have Service Pack no 1, which may have been an automatic update. I have not changed any internal hardware. I have not yet attempted a system restore - maybe that is the next thing to try…

No, the whole active window, and any other open windows behind it, disappear completely, leaving just the desktop on the screen. As I said, a wiggle of the mouse brings them all back, but it is a pain when it happens in the middle of typing a mesage.

If you follow these steps and don't see the Auto HDR toggle, then your display doesn't have HDR features, meaning that something unrelated to Auto HDR is making your games freeze and glitch.
