  • On a second thought, do you think it’ll be safe to use thermal pad instead of tape to cover that area? It’s a thermal pad with 6.0 w/mK conductivity. I can’t use it as a single piece though so I have to cut out a few to sizes and then use.

  • I can’t reuse it because I didn’t know the steel lid could be detached so I was trying to lift the layer to get the old thermal paste out and while doing it I ended up damaging the tape like thingy. so I decided to remove it completely. because it got torn to the point where I felt like couldn’t reuse it
  • Sure. Sorry for the late reply It’s the Helios 500 PH517-51 I think. The CPU (you can see it’s on the right side)in my laptop doesn’t have any tape on it . The GPU had this square shaped tape covering the area beside the GPU die and it was also with adhesive. I removed it btw afterwards. I saw many laptop repair videos…
  • thanks for the reply. i found out that the metal thing on top could be lifted so i just removed that silver layered tape like thing. i can't repaste it though. there was a lot of old thermal paste stuck between the gpu pins. anyway, what are those things called? am i fine applying new thermal paste without that? im not…
