  • Did you try uninstalling the touchpad from device manager and rebooting the laptop? This old school fix often solves these problems. Anyway, it's worth a try.
  • Most power users recommend getting rid of all OEM bloatware and MacAfee.
  • What's the OS, 8 or 10?
  • Assuming you're referring to "universal apps", what exactly do you mean when you say they're not working? You click on them and then what happens?
  • It's starting to sound like hardware. But you should do the basics to make a last attempt at a software fix. Check all the touchpad settings. Uninstall and reinstall the touchpad from device manager. Uninstall and reinstall the drivers. And if that doesn't work, and you're still under warranty, it's off to Acer for a…
  • Great to hear. I'm glad your problem is resolved.
  • This may sound silly. Because it's the first thing most would do. But you didn't mention it. Did you check settings to make sure the touchpad is enabled? You may have turned it off when setting up the mouse. To access settings in Win 8.1 it's Windows Key + C. Or you can getting there by swiping right and bringing up the…
  • Yes, watch a video and judge the task for yourself. But it's not an easy snap out, replace, snap back in job. The Aspires from five years ago were like that. Not the current ones. Lots of fiddley screws, tapes and connectors to deal with. But if you feel up to the challenge, by all means, go for it!
  • Sorry you're going through that. Customer service isn't great anywhere these days. Personally, I really like the Acer laptops. But they're not the only game in town. There are plenty of other wonderful laptops out there in a range of prices and configurations. And 99.9% of them will allow you to disable tap-to-click. Good…

  • It should be accessible this way Windows button > settings > devices > mouse and touchpad That should take you to the controls for your touchpad. What do you see when you get there?
  • Sorry to hear that. You're just going to have to be persistent and call or visit anyone who might possibly have them. This is the time to reach out to that computer geek nephew, cousin, or brother-in-law. And hope they know someone who knows someone. If none of that works, you may have to order from outside Australia. I'm…
  • A reboot basically nulls the system. So even a slightly schumtzy touchpad can become more responsive. Intermittent problems are always the toughest to troubleshoot. But one thing to look for is an intermittent cause. With something as sensitive as a touchpad, dirt is a classic intermittent cause. Of course, it might not be…
  • Your best bet is to go to a local repair shop. Explain your problem in a friendly way and see if they can get the screws for you. They may even have them in stock. These proprietory screws are the bane of computer repair people everywhere. So there's a good chance they'll take pity on you. But be nice. Computer repair guys…
  • I sounds like it might be dirty. This happens to me sometimes when my GF's kid gets his dirty hands all over the touchpad. So just give it a nice little clean. A microfiber cloth should do the trick. Also rather than rebooting every time this happens just turn the touchpad on and off from the touchpad key. That usually…
  • Uninstall the mouse from device manager and reboot the computer.
  • Yup, they can be lengthy these days. Just find something to else to do during the system restore. Grab a movie from iTunes, got out for dinner, call a friend or relative. Anything that will keep you from worrying about how long its taking. More RAM might help. But even that isn't a magic fix. In the last year, I've had…
  • Try a system restore to a point prior to the failure.
  • Yup. Replacing a keyboard on an Aspire is a tough job even for an expert. And it's probably almost cheaper to get a new laptop than to get a pro to do it for you.
  • The ability to disable tap to click is in settings in Windows 10 under touchpad. Not in mouse properties.
