  • System protection is turned on. I've tried all the fixes/advice posted (thx all) and it may have improved a little. HDD is now not always at 100%. It is going up and down a lot, but still maxing out at 100% quite regularly. Web browsing is quicker. Going to see how it goes over the weekend, as have had a few false dawns in…
  • No anti virus.
  • Tried the full bore reset - took 9 hrs. Has made no difference at all - still painfully slow to do even a basic task and C disk at 100% right from start up. No option but to send back under warranty. Just hope/trust Acer don't try and claim it's not covered.
  • Factory reset has been tried - no difference in performance. How do I complete a 'full bore erase reset'?
  • All clear, no infected files/malware etc. Seems rather likely that it is the C disk that is faulty. I have been trying to check with Acer that, if this is indeed the case, they will replace this under the extended warranty - but they have now stopped replying to my emails/questions. Waiting 4+ days on response now.
  • Yes there is.
  • Eventually managed to do the disk check. It took 19 mins for the laptop to boot up and then to be able to open the web browser! Somehow the disk check says it is in good health.
  • Nearly every background process is at 0mb/s. A couple with minor effect (like 0.1 or 0.2mb/s).
  • Uninstalled Bullguard. No difference - still @ 100% on C disk.
  • No effect unfortunately, still 100%.
  • A315-54-53UN Yes, SSD would sort it out - but point is, it's supposed to work with the disk it has, and it's under warranty...so I think it's reasonable to expect Acer to fix it. If I fit an SSD, I lose both the cost of extended warranty and then have the cost of the SSD. I'll give the idea you mention a try - thanks.
  • Only just added it. I've tried with and without different anti-virus options and it's always the same laptop performance - meaning awful. I have other laptops and a PC with BullGuard and it doesn't affect them at all. Surely the point is that the C disk should not be at 100% when it's just sat idle. I checked all my other…
  • The device manager screen shot is with hidden devices ticked in the view dropdown. Or have I misunderstood? TM screen for 'start up' here -
  • I had an IT technician take a look and he went straight to the Task Manager and noted that the C disk is maxed out at 100% straight from start up, and it just stays there (at 100%) even if laptop is just idle.
