I would have tried flashing the keyboard as you suggested, by I returned it to the store this morning for a refund, and have ordered another for delivery tomorrow. I hope it works as my first impressions of the machine (keyboard aside) were positive. Thanks for the advice

Set up for UK english. Yes, that's right, two different characters. I have since learnt that if i press one of the faulty keys *very* quickly, I get just the first character in the sequence. So, for example, if I want a 'g' that's great, but if I want an 's', it's not!
