So I opened the laptop and unplugged the battery and just booted it with the charger in and it has the same issue, won't boot with 8GB stick only the 4GB stick and won't detect the HDD (I hear it clicking) but will detect the SDD.

Thanks I'll have a look at the battery and connector. Why would it boot with the 4gb of ram but not the 8gb? That puzzles me. I just ran some battery diagnostics and this is what it's showing.
