  • I wonder if Nvidia seems to have fixed this? My Acer Predator Helios 500 with 1070 seems perfectly stable recently (fingers crossed, touch wood), though has been a real pain with this problem for months (years?). I'm not sure since when it got better, I'm on 511.65
  • Sorry to hear your problem is back too. I find using Windows 11's "View Advanced Display Info" page to then change refresh rate to 60Hz, then quickly 'Revert' fixes the problem .. for a while. This bad effect possibly seems to happen most using Alt-Tab to swap between a full-screen game and back to Windows etc.
  • Ah, you're lucky! I upgraded to Windows 11 and its actually been worse/more frequent for me :-/ I also seem to get this 'limbo' effect where the FPS seems somewhere inbetween 60 and 144 with a very laggy mouse. Oh, I also disabled Windows 11 virtual-machine security, and the laptop runs the same or better than Windows 10.…
  • Update: It seems VBS "Virtualisation Based Security" was running on my laptop after upgrading to Windows 11. I thought 'Core Isolation' turned off already disabled it, but seems it was still enabled as seen in "System Information". This excellent guide showed how to properly disabled VBS…
  • An update - after my 'fix' worked for quite a while, the screen started to play up again sadly. Increasingly I had to push the back-bottom of the screen towards me to get the screen to work, then more and more gently to get it to stay on. After a while like that it would stay on for most of the day. In the end I bought…
  • Thanks very much! I'll check out Display Changer - though I don't know 12noon software, but seems to be used around. I see QRes and Nirsoft have some other command line utilities which might do a similar job too. QRes is open source, so a little safer to try out perhaps. I found a PowerShell script that possibly does the…
  • I've been looking into this some more and it seems to be a known Nvidia issue with some high-refresh screen laptops. It seems Nvidia haven't made any progress fixing this, and they may not given device age and that they seem to have ignored a previous issue in their bug-tracking system. For reference here are some links to…
  • Thanks! That's a useful resource. It reminded me I have game bar enabled, so I've disabled that in case it helps. I'll try some of the others over time too. Cheers
  • Hi all, To update this thread, the screen gradually became worse. From occasionally gently twisting the screen, I found I had to 'bend' the bottom of the screen bezel backwards and forwards near the PREDATOR logo. Eventually things would stabilize, especially when the laptop warmed up it seemed. I bought a lovely iFixit…
  • Hi egydiocoelho, Its a PH517-51|Part Number: NH.Q3NSA.002. I think it is out of warranty, just over 3 years old I believe. Thanks for the screen removal instructions, similar to what I've found on the internet but a bit different too. The screen has been 'ok' for a few days, since I've left it open/vertical, or at least…
  • Hi egydiocoelho and Easwar - thanks for your thoughts. This seems to be something physical in the screen rather than BIOS or O/S. As I mentioned, if I twist the screen slightly it resets it - so it seems to be a loose connection somewhere. I don't think resetting Windows will help. As you may be able to see in the photos,…
  • Hi, thanks for your reply. The Acer support page says this is Model Name: PH517-51|Part Number: NH.Q3NSA.002 I don't have it plugged into anything. EDP cable? Is that the internal cable to the LCD display? No, I've not taken anything apart yet - though looking at videos it doesn't look *too* bad to take the LCD screen…
  • Just to update, the Adata XPG SX8200 Pro 2TB seems to be working well on my Helios 500. A good price for a 2TB NVME SSD too. I found Macrium Reflect (Free) to be the most useful at cloning my data over and adjusting partition sizes etc.
  • Thanks xapim - I just got a Samsung Evo 970 for my girlfriend's Dell, but liked the look of Tom's Hardware's review for the ADATA so will give it a go :)
  • Hi, Did anyone get any more answers for this? I noticed a while ago my keboard didn't look 'blue' as its set, then my girlfriend today said 'gosh is your keyboard supposed to be green' and after investigating I have the same issue as here. No matter what colour I set, I can't get a 'blue' tint. Its as if the blue LEDs are…
  • Hi, PredatorSense once again tried to update, though this time it seemed to update both Service and App - and looks like its working! Both v3.00.3136 One thing that is possible, I don't think I had the App running for a change, just the Service in the background. Its possible the PredatorSense Service is doing the…
  • Thanks xapim, that's pretty much what I thought. However, I disabled 'update drivers' in Control Panel->System->Advanced System Settings->Device Installation Settings and this morning I *still* got another attempt to install 3.00.3136 PredatorSense Service! There was no record in Windows Update of an an attempt to install…
  • Hi, I believe that was in the link I put to my laptop details but its a PH517-51. I don't think there's a sub-product to that. Product code NH.Q3NSA.002.
  • Hi, Sorry to bring this up, but I think I've found my preferred way to handle/'disable'/setup MaxxAudio / True Harmony on my Predator 500. First, my audio was clipping at high volumes. I thought this was my speakers crapping out, but I think I've had something like this before where the wrong sound driver is trying to push…
  • Hi, Try searching for the Windows App "Waves MaxxAudio" and turn it "off" inside that App. You can also get to Waves MaxxAudio from the App Center at the bottom of the PredatorSense menu. It may sound quieter, but a lot cleaner! You can also adjust some of the sound settings in there too - like 'bass', 'depth', 'detail'…
