How to Safely Eject an External Storage Device from the Taskbar

In the far right corner of your taskbar, select the caret^ to open the hidden icons menu.
Locate the external storage device icon.
Right click on the icon and select Eject.

How to Safely Eject an External Storage Device from File Explorer

Open File Explorer📁.
On the left side of the File Explorer window, locate the external storage device.
Right click the device and select Eject.

How to Safely Eject from the Settings application

Open Settings⚙️, you can do so by holding down Windows⊞ and I on your keyboard.
On the left side of Settings, select Bluetooth and devices.
Select the Devices tab.
In the list of devices, locate the storage device.
Once located, select the device to expand the menu, and select Remove.

Once ejected, you'll be notified that it's safe to disconnect the device.
