Drivers are programs that allow your PC to communicate with hardware devices, both internal and external. Updating drivers can add new features and patch security concerns. Sometimes Windows updates and driver updates may react adversely and result in the device not working as expected. If this issue occurs you are able to roll back device drivers so that you can continue to use the device without interruptions.
To Roll Back Drivers to a Previous Version:
- Click on the Start ⊞ button
- Search and launch Device Manager
- In the Device Manager window, locate the device you are wanting to roll back drivers on
- Right-click on the device and click Properties
- In the Properties window, click the Driver tab
- Here, you can see the current driver version that the device is on and the date of the driver
- Select Roll Back Driver
- Select the reason for rolling back the driver, then select Yes
- The driver tab will update and you will see the driver roll back to the previous version
