i bought a new hp laptop 2 weeks ago, and after installing all my stuff, windows went to update and my sound was gone. called hp support, tried everything, nothing worked except putting it back to factory settings/restore point. and then it happened again. so i asked for another laptop.

and with that other one... it happened again. so i asked for my money back and got a different brand laptop. i now have an acer predator helios 300 PH315-53 (snid # 05104525234) got it yesterday. installed all my stuff, and guess what happened today? windows went to update and there's no sound. i don't install weird stuff, i only have official apps (and all of them are installed on my old laptop which never had this problem)

the only thing i can think of is that i couldn't copy vapoursynth from my old laptop (the pathing got messed up) so i had to download that new on my new laptops... it's the only thing that's different. how could that mess up my sound?

this is a completely different laptop and a different brand, it must be me that's doing something wrong here? idk what, I'm crying and desperate, please help

it happens when windows updates drivers, but afterwards it doesn't help to do any of the usual driver problem solving or trouble shooting. the only thing that works is going back to a restore point from before the update (which you'll have to keep going back to because it happens AGAIN when windows updates). Before the updates everything works fine. is there a way to stop these driver updates from happening? the drivers work fine until the update. i tried everything, this happened with 3 brand new laptops and i am at such a loss

    You did your stuff backwards.

Install all drivers and windows update FIRST, then install your software. Only then you will know for sure whether it's Windows's fault or your fault.

Try to update the audio driver.
