Acer E14 E5-473-59Y5 drains battery while off

Hello!
As title says im having some issues with my notebook Acer. Model is Aspire E14 E5-473-59Y5 . It completely drains off the battery while being off with no USB plugged in and windows correctly shut down. Only way to keep the charge is by shutting it down by olding down the power button after Windows close. This is really annoying because the bounce will power up my system 9/10 times.
Ive tried messing with power options both on Windows and Ubuntu OS with no results. Ive tried disabling USB charging while off from Acer quick access but it keeps turning it on every new boot.

Please i need help, each time the battery drains to 0% (can happen from one day to other) it damages. I try to keep it charged as much as i can while preveting it from being at 100% to much time.

Ive also wanted to disable usb charging from BIOS but there is no Advanced tab to access nor option to mess with.
what can i do?

Hi! Please tell me how to do it?
Also i may have to update the BIOS, but i cant find my exact laptop model on Acer webpage. The close one is the Aspire E14 -473T /473TG.
I cant update with the wrong BIOS...

If this fixes the problem, you should NOT try to update the BIOS firmware if the machine is otherwise working OK since it might risk damaging your system if the BIOS doesn't update properly. Nonetheless, the BIOS update v1.09 that address the battery drain issue and other driver page can be found in this link but be very careful installing updates. Jack E/NJ

Already tried that one . I didnt help. Im running a dual boot system on a single drive here. Maybe is a Ubuntu thing. Battery drains to 0% overnight no matter from which OS i turned off the laptop. What drives me crazy is that it keep it charged sometimes. i would say 8/10 times , and i cant find what keeps its draining it. Only solution that i came with is keep down the power button for 10-15 sec after software shutdown but the debounce sometimes turns on the machine. Really bothering. I mentioned the BIOS update because i can see a revision for my problem. It literally says "Fixed battery drain off quickly during power off" on one BIOS update entry...

Be careful of dual boot. Make sure you select to boot to Windows each time you shut the machine down to install updates.

Open Device Manager. Click battery folder. Right click and uninstall all battery drivers that you find in this batteries folder. Exit Device Manager without trying to re-install anything. Shut down Windows normally. Then turn it back on to let Windows automatically re-detect and re-install the battery drivers.

If that battery drivers reset doesn't work, the you can try the BIOS v1.09 update. Make sure your charger is plugged in and re-boot to Windows before trying this, The BIOS updates are risky and have potential for bricking the machine.

# Try to update the battery driver

1. Hold windows key and hit letter X. (You will get a pop-up menu then release your finger)
2. Choose the device manager option.
3. Go with the option battery.
4. Under the title battery/ac adapter.
5. Right click on that options ----> Update driver.
6. Choose "search automatically".

Check this T/S and post the result.

Im confused. I went to activate "fast startup" just for the sake of it and my laptop keep its charge all night! Im going to continue testing because it can be "one of those lucky days". Also, i tried all the above solutions.

Are you sure you didn't uncheck fast startup as recommended earlier? It's usually checked by default as recommended by Windows even though it often causes problems like this. Jack E/NJ

Yes i did. i had it uncheck a lot ago and never helped. Now i tried re enableing it justo to test it...

OK. Some of these Windows apps are known to behave quite unpredictably. You can still try BIOS v1.09 as a last resort if starts draining again. Jack E/NJ

Yes! I might wait a little longer since i have work to do on it...
I ve never done a BIOS flash on a laptop...can you please provide me the steps on how to do it?

You download it as a compressed zipfile which you double-click on to decompress it in Windows. It will produce Windows subdirectories. Click on the Windows subdirectories until you find WinFlashPG.EXE. Double click on this file to run the BIOS flash program. Make sure the battery is fully charged and charger plugged in when you do this. And remember, only do this as a last resort because it is a risky procedure. Jack E/NJ

Is there another way to do it? i mean from the BIOS itself instead of mixing Windows in the equation?

Yes but with a much higher risk of bricking. If it was my machine --- and disabling Control Panel's fast boot option doesn't resolve the battery drain problem --- then I yes would try to flash the BIOS by running the v1.09 WinFlashPG.EXE file under the Windows environment. Just make sure battery is near full charge and plugged in before you try it.

i ve been told that all BIOS flash should be done with flash drive outside Windows... what are the risks?

Much riskier than trying to flash the BIOS inside the Windows environment. The FN+ESC cold boot flash method outside of Windows is sort of a last resort for machines that aren't functional. Fails about 75% of the time.

Hello! I see that the BIOS update that has the label for the battery fix is the v1.09 but here my question: If i go and install v1.13 which is more recent would it carry over the fixes of the previous one? Or I have to install each one alone?

Yes, should carryover all the fixes in between. But should NOT be applied if you have no issues with your existing BIOS version since firmware updates can result in adverse side effects or worse in machines that otherwise seem to be functioning properly with earilier firmware.
