It's possible to Install an Optane SSD in a PH315-53?

I'm a little naive... I tought it would be as easy as bougth a 512 GB SSD + 32 GB Optane, install in the empty slot and I tought that was easy enought
My mistake...
At first, the module was not enabled at all... Windows didnt recognize it, nor in the device manager, neighter at the disk manager... nothing at all...
When I was ready to scream because I wasted my money... I found a litlle light in the "Intel Optane Memory and Storage Management" ... where it was listed as SDD with an Icon saying "disabled"
Then, I look for some manuals, and after that... I installed the "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" software... after that... the SSD changed to this:

Here, I proceeded with the "Empty metadata" option, and now, I'm able to use the Intel SSD as a storage device...
But the Optane option is always listed as "Disc not avalible"
There are some instructions to change certain options at UEFI, but as you know, these options are not avalible for the Predator

I also downloaded an ISO firmware to update, but after I installed it into a USB, the screen only says "Security boot error" ... so I'm stuck...

Is there anything that I can do to enable the optane moddule or I missed my money?

What was it you bought, could we have the full part number? Was it the Intel h10? :)

Reading through the install guide it may not be possible on the predator as you need optain on but rst turned off for the optane drive which I don't think is supported In the UEFI, will continue to have a Google around to see if anything stands out though

Indeed! I should specify that!! Im'm sorry... I was really frustrated yesterday...

You did it reallized well, it's the Intel H10
    https://www.intel.la/content/www/xl/es/products/memory-storage/optane-memory/optane-memory-h10-solid-state-storage/optane-memory-h10-32gb-512gb-m-2-80mm.html

It's really anoying that the UEFI options did not allow me to made those changes... even so... somewhere I had read about the opposite thing, that Optane could not be disallowed for the Predator laptops...

I'm a little confused because I think (I want to believe) that even if it's not working properly, the Intel Optane MSM panel must show that the second part of the SSD it's optane (but I really dont know)

In the Manual says that the installation process of window requires an special driver (F6flpy-x64 (Intel® VMD)) to be installed... but... my Windows Installation it's not new, so I only added the driver manually... just by right click the sys file -> install... (maybe the wrong way...?)

Thank you so much in advance...

Im guesing you've seen this already but its worth sharing! ( https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/memory-and-storage/optane-memory/Optane-Memory-H-Series-Installation-Guide-345865.pdf ) the install guide for it from intel :)

Can i confirm what version of the RST drivers are installed as well?

I dont think you have a VMD system so you need to follow the non VMD install guide, i think  VMD is 11th gen + and RST is 8th-10th gen , taken from section 3.1 of the pdf guide

    What cpu do you have?

  • Go to the main bios tab and press ctrl + s. What sata mode options appear? In which slot did you install the h10?

Yes, I already checked the manual that you shared me... but I wasnt so secure about which option should I follow...
My current RST Driver: 18.30.1.1138, I used SetupRST to install it

There are also a file called F6flpy-x64 (Intel® VMD) That I just cant figure how to install... (the manual says that it must be done during the Windows install)

My CPU its the Intel i7-10750H

Thanks!! That's a nice trick!! I dont know why those options are locked by default...

    Those are the options...
The original is "Optane with RAID", I left the "Optane without RAID" but not lucky there..

Maybe its the slot? I'm using the second (free) slot for this ...

Yeh those drivers are for when you intall windows, the "f6" is the key you press to load in extra (or used to be anyway) drivers on the what HDD do you want to use back in XP / before days

Its the Non VMD guide you need to follow, and if you have and its not working its not looking good :(. the VMD guide is for Intel EVO / 11th gen / Xeon Proccessors

ThanatosMK next time (yes I know I'm smart and taking in retrospect here) you should research the complete range of M.2 SSD drives for your PH315-53. Your better option would have been to purchase a Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 NVMe SSD or the Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD (that are excellent drives and very reliable) and used their 'Magician' software and also applied the TRIM on SSD in Win-10 (which you can still do to the Intel M.2) option, which is a simpler M.2 upgrade and works much better.

    What I did:
I checked and actived the Optane Options in the BIOS
I removed the original SSD and placed in its place the new SSD + Optane
I installed Windows 10 in the SSD + Optane using the drivers
After setting all the software (again) and drivers to use Optane (as described by the manual)...

It all ended as same as I started...

So yes... I must conclude that the PH315-53 it's not compatible with the H10 Optane memory...

Yes... I know that that's the smartest thing to do: research before you buy... and also... I did it...
and there are just a "few" of "maybe"... no one really concluded that it was or it wasn't compatible with that SSD (H10)... until now...

So... I know I was an optimistic fool, but at least I think this research (and all your comments and help) could be some advice for someone else that has the same (or simiilar) inquiry
  • Sorry, but I really think the ph315-53 is compatible with the intel h10. Have you tried to update the intel h10 bios and firmware? Can you upload a photo of this configuration?
