First, what do you want to use the DVD slot caddy for with the HDD or SSD? Is it for a slave drive or boot drive? As you can only use it for a boot drive with another OS like a different windows version that you have internally, Ubuntu etc. The link that you have above, is the perfect caddy you should use (I've used this method n a V3-%71G with a SATA spinner HDD as a slave drive and it works perfectly) buy that 2.5" HDD caddy which will accomodate your new HHD or SSD drive, take the DVD drive out and replace it with either a 2.5" SATA spinner HDD or a 2.5" SATA 3-6GB/SEC SSD and mount the new drive into the caddy and just place the caddy into the DVD slot like the DVD drive unit and secure the screw at the bottom of your laptop. Then boot your laptop and format the new HHD or SSD and you have a new and additional slave drive.

Btw, if you have an SSD as a boot drive internally? Always apply the TRIM command within windows as that makes your SSD function to its peak read/write performance and to its most efficient functions and it also saves on the longevity of your SSD's drive overall lifespan.

It is OK to replace HDD with SSD. But you need to know the interface of the disk which your computer's motherboard could compatible with. Also if you want to improve the performance of your computer, the capacity and the type of the flash memory should be pay extra attention when you buy the SSD. To save time from reinstalling the system and the software, I choose cloning the disk with some disk cloning software. And I found Renee Becca at that time after searching on the Internet. It can make the disk clone in 3 simple steps and after that, I can boot the computer from the new SSD without effort. Here introduce some related knowledge about SSD and disk clone.

I have an internal SSD.M2 for booting Windows. I have an internal HDD for files. And I want an additional HDD for more files by replacing the optical drive.
Thank you for the instructions, @StevenGen. Do you have any favourite YouTube-Video for opening the Notebook?
I will look into TRIM command. Thank you.
