eRecovery issue-When I open the folder in my backup file I get the error message' Access Denied'

I Had to use eRecovery utility to restart my unit...I chose Option #2 tha Restores the operating system and retains User data.

Worked good...the retained user data was put in a file C\Backup...good so far...now I cannot get the data because it was originally PW protected in my previous windows setup....I know the data is in  there because the HD is about the capacity pre eRecovery mode.

When I try to open the folder in my backup file I get the error message' Access Denied'

Any ideas?

Right click the folder, go to properties. In this pane, go to the security tab. In the security tab click on advanced. In the advanced screen click the button that's under the white box. It says modify something or other (sorry, going on memory here). In this new screen you should see a random username. That would be your old account. So click add user and type the name of your account and hit verify name. It should find you without issue. A privilege management screen will open, grant yourself full control and make sure that the dropdown at the top says "This folder, subfolders and files" and then click ok. Now just click ok on all of the boxes that you had opened and Windows will modify access priveleges for your old files.

Please keep in mind that this doesn't always work, but if anything can help you this would be it. Hope this works for you, good luck and take care!

    and

    Customize

There is literally no other way that I know of within Windows ot recover these files without giving yourself permission to access them / taking ownership over them. Please read here: http://www.computerstepbystep.com/security_tab_windows_7.html#Gpedit for steps to enable the security tab.

You need to install the security tab, it's not included by default.
