Bluetooth activation

I have an Acer Aspire 5736Z-446D with Windows 7 Home Edition, it is about 2 years old, out of warranty, so Acer will not assist me unless I pay them 100 dollars for tech assistance.  I have attempted to add or sync a iDM8 wireless speaker with no luck.  When I go to control panel, click "add a device" the computer cannot recognize the device, I am also having no success adding my wireless printer also.  I have contacted Microsoft and they state that it is not a Windows problem.  If anyone knows, does my laptop have this feature, and if it does, how do I enable it.  Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Does your Apire have Bluetooth ? It appears to be optional. If it does then there should be a selection in Control Panel.

I have two Apires and had to add USB bluetooth buttons to each (http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-USB-Micro-Adapter-Dongle/dp/B001EBE1LI/) . Once you have Bluetooth the driver  must do pairing with the other device.

Thank you Padgett so very much for your response.  I purchased a usb dongle, but it was a 4.0 version, installed the drivers, and I still could not synch with my bluetooth speaker.  Could the problem have been that the dongle was the 4.0 version and not the 2.0 version.  I greatly appreciate your taking time out assisting me with my problem, I will take your suggestion and purchase the one on the link from Amaxon  Thank you.

Well first you need to have the bluetooth device appear in Device Manager (will be its own line item). The you need to make sure that it is enabled. Once it is active then you can use the BT tray icon (right click) to find and pair with your speaker.

Am afraid it is not just P&P, BT does require some tweaking.

BTW note/netbooks are covered in a different forum  http://community.acer.com/t5/Notebooks-Netbooks/bd-p/notebooks
