I am using acer nitro 5 laptop and I cannot remember new password I know old password how can I open my laptop without data lost

    firstly try the options below the password. 'sign in with different options, it can ask few security questions and help you reset the password.
    If you have logged in with MS account then reset the password for the mail on a different computer and try on this machine with a restart on it. also if its still not working then try a reset by keeping your files. this will help you retain your data but delete the apps and programs alone. 

    Now if you have logged in as local user with the email, then the only option is to do a factory reset. hope its helpful.

    I would simply echo with fellow @christy1 suggestion.

    Using a different laptop or a smartphone you can reset the existing microsoft a/c password. Once it is done, restart the affected computer and make sure it is connected to internet. If you have problem connecting with Wi-Fi then use a ethernet cable.

    Now enter the new password. You now would be able to use your device without losing the data..

    Hello, Dhakandidb. Here are my thought on your question. Hope that it can give you some ideas.
    To open your laptop as easily as possible, using another sign-in option is no doubt the best way. So, check whether you have set other options like PIN before. If you have, just login your system with it.

    If the forgotten new password is the only path for you to access your computer, then I think that you need to reset or remove the new password, which would not cause data loss normally.

    To reset the forgotten Windows password, 2 ways are available.
    Way 1. Click the password reset link below the password bar or using the password reset disk and follow the related steps. The link or disk is usable if you have set them in Windows before. If you can see neither of them, just move on to the next way.
    Way 2. Boot your Acer PC from the Windows installation drive and then run some commands to reset the password. As you need to run Command Prompt during following this method, it's highly recommended to try it only when you are familiar with CMD in case wrong operations cause system errors.

    To remove the forgotten Windows password, you could apply Windows Password Genius, a professional Windows password removal tool. You can make a password removal disk with it in a workable computer and then boot your Acer computer from the disk to erase the password for your user account. It's not free, but it provides the free version for you to experience almost the whole password removal process(except for the last step - remove password). You can try the free version before you get the paid one.
