Hello all,

I bought new ACER Aspire A315-57G (512GB NVMe SSD) laptop with only EFI Shell and I have issues with installing Windows. I created a bootable GPT/FAT32 USB with Rufus and I can run Windows installation. But I can get only to a point of selecting a drive and I can't find any drives.

I was reading about it and found a post to run CMD through Windows installation - Repair option and check diskpart. There I can only see USB from which I'm installing Windows.

BIOS setup
  • Security - I setup Supervisor password and User password
  • Security - HDD1: NVMe SSD does not support HDD password
  • Boot - Secure Boot - Enabled
  • Boot - Boot Mode - UEFI - gray out so can't be changed
  • Information - HDD0 is None

EFI Shell
Here is the EFI Shell screen with attached USB for installing Windows.

Can anyone point me to where the issue might be? If it is something hardware related I wouldn't like to open the case since it's a brand new laptop. So I would just like to eliminate all the options before I go back to the store.

    Hi,
Did the laptop came without the Operating system? anyway, go to Main tab in BIOS and try switching SATA mode to either RST with Optane or AHCI and see whether it helps, if it doesn't, return it for a replacement.

Thank you for quick response! :)

Laptop came only with UEFI Shell - Notebook Acer Aspire 3, NX.HZREX.00G, 15.6" FHD, Intel Core i5 1035G1 up to 3.60GHz, 12GB DDR4, 512GB NVMe SSD, NVIDIA GeForce MX330 2GB, no ODD, UEFI Shell

I don't have SATA Mode option there. Here is the BIOS Main tab.

Any other option? Or replacement in the store?
  • No problem, while you are in the Main tab, press Ctrl+S buttons together to get SATA mode option.

Selecting AHCI as SATA mode helped! Thank you!

After pressing Ctrl+S I got SATA Mode option with:
    • AHCI - this helped!
    • Optane without Raid - this was selected
    • Optane with RAID - this doesn't help

hey "aspevec" update your Aspire A315-57G bios first, to the last bios update version 1.13 dated 2020/12/23 as it includes “Support SHARP LQ156M1JW01 panel” and “Support ELinux new boot path” which is where your problem is, as your bios v1.06 is the old OEM bios and its obsolete and that is where your problem(s) lay. Also andfor your information, the system won't need a driver change to e.g. SATA Mode [AHCI Mode] to run Windows 10. Both AHCI and the PCIe drives are included in the RST Optane driver.simple.

Hello I have the same problem with Aspire 3. I have no SATA mode option in BIOS. Unfortunately even ctrl+s didn't bring it up. Could you help me?

This has been driving me crazy for more than 4 hours. Simply turn off VMD Controller in the Main page of BIOS and you will be good to go.
