Discolored screen on Chromebook 13

My Acer Chromebook is starting to show discolored areas at the bottom of the screen near the hinges. It looks like they are burns or from heat, but I can't be sure.  Has anyone seen this?

I have the same thing on my Spin 13. Definitely a heat problem, the rest of my screen is cool while these spots are warm-ish. Started about 6 months after purchase. Annoying, but don't interfere with day-to-day operation. Haven't taken the screen apart to diagnose.

Unfortunately these problems started after my warranty expired, so Acer phone support was unable to help me. They suggested I go to a big box retailer such as Best Buy for repair options.

I finally got an email through to Acer, and this was info I got back:
Thank you for contacting Acer. We understand it can be frustrating when a product does not function properly, and we apologize for the inconvenience. We have received your request for repair; however, we are unable to complete your request online. The standard fee for out-of-warranty repair of this model is currently $399.99 USD which will need to be pre-authorized on a credit card prior to confirming service. If you would like to set up a repair, you may contact us by phone at (866)658-2237 Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 CST. We look forward to assisting you further.
$400 is a little steep for a 2-year-old computer, and that's not including parts. It's a shame that the company does not take responsibility for such a problem.
