Acer W510 Reset issue

Everytime a RESET is started the W510 shuts down and never continues to reset until the power button is held down for 10 seconds then released and then the power button is again pressed and released whereupon the W510 resumes the reset as if nothing happened.

This happens when Windows updates are applied, when the BIOS update is applied, when a manual reset is started.

The greater problem I see with this is that one day the power button is not going to want to work due to being pressed for extended periods of time which turns into a hardware failure after being a software issue.

Thanks,

Have you tried turning off "fast boot" ? Is new n Windows 8 but slowed everything down so I turned it off. Part of the trouble is that the 510 has no disk activity light. See http://www.typicaltips.com/2013/02/disable-fast-startup-in-windows-8.html

Padgett - I attempted the cure you advised with no change in operation.

Still will not finish from a reset / restart sequence.

If I do a shutdown (either from the desktop or the metro charms) it behaves correctly and shutsdown and then is able to be re-started immediately by pressing the power button with no problem.

I do remember a couple of PC's I have had in the past on Win XP and WIn 98 that would lock to the the shutting down screen before but that tended to clear with updates from microsoft.

    Thanks,
