I have installed a Western Digital WDS250G2B0C WD Blue SN550 250GB NVMe SSD
on the laptop but the bios does not recognise the disk.  Windows does not recognise the disk either.

With the SF114-32 models, NVMe support was a build option on the motherboard, so some support it and some do not. It's much more likely to work right off the line if you put a SATA drive in the M.2 slot.

NVME should be supported on it (from user benchmark   https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/36121302   ) . Try re-seating it, NVMe can be finiky to get in the slot as it feels "weird" pushing it in.

When installing, the drive should go in at an angle of aorund 30/45 degrees, pusg it in, and then if it is in it should "spring" up by itself if its tightly in the slot with almost non / non of the contacts from the drive showing.  If re-seat doesnt work, could check to see if the BIOS is the latest version it may need a patch

Thanks for the suggestion.  I tried reinstalling as you suggested but it still does not recognise the ssd.  I installed the latest BIOS today.

    Hi,
Could you please go to BIOS and move to Advanced tab, check whether you can change the option for SATA by clicking SATA configuration, post the snip of the screen.

Does not allow you to do much. It allows you to enable or disable.

  • OK, move to Main tab in BIOS and press Ctrl+S buttons together and see whether you can change SATA mode from AHCI to another option.

i have the previous swift 113 and it does not support pcie, only m.2 sata (but that is a 113, not 114, but from the attached thread, seems the same for the 114).   You might find this prior thread useful and i have also included 2 wd links that'll let you compare the connections (i have the wd blue m.2 sata and it is rather good)

Thanks for providing the link. I suspect it does not accept the NVME card which is disappointing. I wish Acer would provide more specific information about compatible hardware for its laptops. Bit of a lucky dip. As I don't think I can exchange the ssd with Amazon  The reason I got this laptop was because it had the slot.

I have contacted Acer Technical Support and they are looking into it.  I suspect I will have to install a SATA drive but will wait until I get a response from them.

I have installed a SATA drive and its working.  The BIOS screen does not recognise it but Windows does.  Thanks for all the good suggestions and help.  :)
