The capacity is 64 gb SSD. Questionable if it is possible to install HDD.

This vendor does not have your model listed for upgradeable HDD. It is best to check with your local Acer Center before opening up the back & running the risk of voiding the warranty.0

Both Acer A111-31 and A311-31 have same casing design, however Acer A111-31 does not have option for additional HDD.
Aspire A311-31 has the option to hold additional HDD.

You could get SDXC card and use it for additional storage.
Example:https://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-microSDXC-Memory-Adapter-Performance/dp/B073JY5T7T/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1539777986&sr=8-8&keywords=Micro+SD+Cards

See image below. This may be the reason why not.
2 tb SDXC card. Email seller about shipping details & costs.

I have came across one of these Laptops I am refurbishing at the moment, and I too was confused by the connection
I appreciate this post is over 2 yrs old, however, since I have also been wondering what hard drive goes in this laptop as the connection appears alien, I have since realised actually its not that alien after all, as it just looks like a power connection and nothing more, 4 pins surely cannot transfer data and power a large hard drive.
Then i noticed something that appears to give me an answer and it doesnt look so alien to me anymore
If you look further down from where the OP took photos you will see what appears to be a SATA connector and room for leads to trace back to the hard drive bay
See my rough image with where it all would connect
What I havent been able to solve, is what type of lead it would take given most pop out higher than the space provided
Maybe a ribbon version of a sata lead?
So either its a SATA to Micro Sata lead needed (and thus my drawing showing the red trackmarks going down to the bottom of the image and returning back up with 2 outputs
or its a regular Sata lead or Ribbon version, which simply goes Power to power, Data to data , of cause these leads have to be short

Hi, just about to buy an A111 (used); is there a service guide for the A111 ? I want to know if the A111 has a service hatch - looks like it from the photos above. And if so, I have a rough idea which cable to get for an SSD. Think its this one. (even though it says its for the A311 and A132)... http://www.mk-electronic.de/eng/items/show/50.GG2N7.0041

Hi, following the lead above from musicrab, I took the risk and ordered the cable for the A311 =musicrab said:Hi, just about to buy an A111 (used); is there a service guide for the A111 ? I can also report that I upgraded it to a single chip 8GB of Ram
I spent about 80 gbp on this upgrade - the result is a Celeron N4000 with 8gb of RAM and a 240gb SSD. A clean install of Windows 10 and the young lady who will be using it for school work should see some value for that money compared to buying a similar machine new.1 -

Pleased to report that I was able to fit a 240gb SSD to the A111 using the cable. Was as simple as removing the cover, plugging the cable in, routing it along the edge and plugging in the drive. Loaded into windows, went to disk management and the drive was listed as drive0 ready for initialization. I haven't yet loaded the OS to it, but see no reason that it won't work. The drive sits loosely in the bay, as the A111 doesn't have the mounting fixtures, but I am happy with a small square of double sided tape to hold it in place and avoid rattles.

What memory speed did you use? 3200? 2400?
I managed to get a 500gb SSD into mine with the cable so I'm just looking to up the ram and were good to go.
