KA241Y bix monitor works with VGA input, but not with HDMI

So, I'm trying to set up dual monitors for my home workstation, and I currently only have one VGA port on my computer. My second monitor only accepts VGA, so that's taken. The Acer monitor works fine on VGA, but when I plug it in with an HDMI cable, the computer detects the monitor, but the monitor says "no signal" and goes to sleep. Is there a trick to making it work on HDMI, or should I start looking into the warranty?

So to be clear, you have one VGA port and one HDMI port on the computer? Are they both on a graphics card or on the motherboard, or one on each?

Yes, I have one VGA port and one HDMI port on the computer, they're both on the motherboard.

Then it should work with one monitor connected with a VGA cable and the second connected with an HDMI cable.

No *****. If only the Acer monitor actually worked with the HDMI cable, you might be on to something.

So, have you tried a different HDMI cable? That's the most likely culprit. The HDMI port on the computer might have failed, but usually that is catastrophic enough to cause other failures as well.

Tested the HDMI cable with my laptop and a tv, it worked fine. The computer also registers a second display when I plug it in to the monitor, so I don't think the issue is on that end, I'm just not sure how it can do that and not have the monitor register any signal. At this point, I'm thinking it has to be a port issue of some kind on the monitor, it just seemed weird to me that the computer was still able to detect the display.

I wonder if it's somehow trying to run the monitor with a signal that's not supported, like 1080P on 720P monitor. With it connected, when you bring up display settings and select that monitor, what resolution is it showing?
