What has happened to the Acer Spin 513 Chromebook?

This was supposed to be released in Europe in January, on the back of its announcement in October last year. Since then, nothing has been heard about it, and I saw on Reddit that a user there has discovered it has been cancelled. Anyone know why this was cancelled? Are Acer giving up on Snapdragon based Chromebooks altogether?

They still show it on their web site, so it likely hasn't been cancelled. It's not unusual for the delivery date to slip, even by several months due either to a glitch in the design process or a glitch in manufacturing. I believe the Spin 7 Windows machine is in the same state... I had thought that was delayed due to issues with the Snapdragon version of Windows, but if the Chrome version is also delayed, it's more likely an issue with availability of the CPU or support components.

Yes, it seems Qualcomm is having major supply issues with their higher performing SOC's, including the 7c, 8c, and 8cx. It's so severe, that it looks like products using these (and other SOCs in short supply) are being cancelled. I bet the same has happened to the Spin 7 you mentioned. Acer don't know when they will be able to secure a sufficient supply of the Qualcomm SOCs they need, and so the only option is to scrap the product. This is a huge problem with Intel and AMD too, their newer stuff is in very short supply.

I don't think they have been cancelled per se, they still show on the websites. So it's much more likely that we're just looking at delays.
